Life REALLY isn't fair!!
Ok, so this morning I'm on my way to work listening to my favorite morning show KIDD KRADDICK! Anyway, they were talking about the gay marriage ban and how some people are against it blah blah blah. Ok, so they I just kinda freak out. Do you all realize what is happening?! We only live once... and our Government is forbidding us to do things??? That just doesn't make sense. Ok, I get the killing thing. You can't kill people. Good rule. But MARRYING someone? How does that hurt anyone else? And what the hell is this "civil union" bull? So, gay people aren't good enough to get marriage, they get a second class "civil union?" I mean I've always been for gay marriage, for woman's right to choose, ect. But, this morning it's like I got an epiphany (is that the right word?) It's like the book 1984. What if god doesn't even exist and all these religious quacks are wasting their lives?? Does this make any sense or am I just babbling on like a psycho??
:wtf:  :tinfoilhat:

3. They are second class
Yeah straight couples have them, but they always have the option of getting married if they want.

6. In Texas, I guess we still have "common law" marriage.
You can walk in anywhere and jointly apply for credit with your SO and just say "we're married"... And you are.

17. Is that a fact? Cool. Hmm... if so,
what happens when a same-sex couple does that?

5. It's separate but equal.
I'm not unioned. I'm married. The word in federal law is marriage.

Anything else is bullshit.

11. That's why I don't like Kerry
He's against gay marriage, but he supports "civil unions" give me a break. I just can't comprehend how people can be so close minded! I'm not gay, and I don't even have any very close gay friends, and I don't see ANY problem with it. What is the difference if you love a man or a woman???? If someone can explain this to me without with anything about god in their explanation I would be very appreciative.

14. You're never going to get that explanation, Smirnoff.
A non-religious rationale for banning gay marriage does not exist. Period.

The Democratic nominee has to take a middle road on this to beat Bush. It is a shit sandwich, and we gay folk are so used to sharing these shit sandwiches that we're hopeful this election will be the last time we have to take a bite.

Kerry's comments on NPR Monday gave me a little hope, because of some of the things he said and in fact he did vote against DOMA.

But Edwards, IMO, is the best hope (except for Dean) for a 100% no-bullshit "make it equal NOW" stand in the White House, but if he were the nominee and took that stand prior to the election, I fear it would mean 4 more years of *.

15. Is Dean completely out?
Does he have any hope left? They make it sound like Kerry has pretty much sealed the deal. Dean/Clark would be ideal I believe! I just can't imagine if I feel this strongly about it, how you must feel! I don't know if I would be able to handle it...

16. No, he's not out.
I don't know how much hope there is, but I'm hanging on.

Yes, the media seems to be holding its crown just inches over Kerry's head, and I hate to say that it seems inevitable. I think Edwards has a better chance than Dean of overtaking Kerry.

I am, indeed, bitterly, deeply disappointed. I have held forth for Howard Dean since last summer. I'm hurt and angry at what was done to him after he felt safe enough to show his exuberance in Iowa. How pathetic this country is that we must characterize things we wouldn't do or don't understand as "bad." It makes me furious. And I'm sad for the country; I feel Howard Dean has the potential to be the best president in decades, and I hope he won't give up on thoughts of a future run.

How am I handling my disappointment, though? By screaming at the top of my lungs, every chance I get,

ANYBODY BUT BUSH

23. Just b/c Kerry said he's against it, doesn't mean he is...
I think soooo many of these guys are terrified of taking a stance on some "liberal" social issue. Kerry does not strike me as the kind of person who truly is against it, but b/c he's the front-runner, he's gonna say he is because he doesn't want to alienate any potential voters. I don't know what's worse: being against it, or saying you're against it to get elected.

They want all of us to stop thinking big. They are small minded pin heads.
They hide behind religion. and are not the least bit spritual about anything.
Everyone knows if you want to get married ..celebrate!
It's great that 2 people want to share their life!
The re-p's just bring doom and grimness everwhere they go.

Knowing that there are people in this country who'd jump at the chance to go back to those "good old days".

9. It doesn't hurt anyone else, but that's not the issue for them
They love sticking their noses in other people's business. What a country: the federal government has no business inquiring about the contents of your gun rack, but your bedroom is fair game.

10. Um that would be
called being an atheist. You don't need a 1984 literary reference to be an atheist. We are all over the place and yes we are in general concerned about religions. Some of the things they demand are quite interesting. Why would someone be damned for eating meat of a friday? Why is eating shrimp an offense? Why is wearing clothes made of two or more types of fabric so offensive? Why must women cover themself completely?

13. That's not what I meant
I wasn't meaning to link those to comments together. I'm not using 1984 as a literary reference. I mean our lives are like 1984. Then a whole seperate thought about Christians wasting their lives... sorry for confusion there.

22. It's mostly about money

The insurance companies don't want to recognize same-sex marriages because they'll have to pay more money in benefits. The government doesn't want to lose revenue by allowing same-sex couples to file taxes on joint returns.

You make sense; but politics isn't about sense, unfortunately.

24. They used these same damn arguments against "interracial" marriages
you'd think people would get clued in that it doesn't matter to any stable marriage who else is or is not getting married. I'll never in a million years understand why anyone else cares when two people wish to make a commitment to one another. It does not affect me in the slightest, no matter what "race" (the human species doesn't have races genetically speaking) or gender the people may be. It doesn't affect me when my neighbor marries someone of the opposite gender. It will affect me no more if he marries someone of his own gender. Why on earth would it???

that being said, I don't understand the difference whether it is a man and a woman or two men or two women. I don't understand all the fuss.
