I'm sure that's how my two stepdaughters feel about my husband and me. We're not millionaires, but we do have a good life that we share with those family members who love and accept us.

Damn! Those two women, their two husband, and five grandchildren are completely disassociated from this family... it really is so sad. I wish they could bury the purient load of adolescent crapola they carry and we could just move forward.

However, to be realistic, it is not possible. Now or ever...

Both girls are grown . . . I'm not sure how that happened - just sort of flew by. Oh, I didn't raise taxes! (vote for me) and my wife and I are now empty nesters and have gone back to graduate school together (well, she had to finish her undergrad first) She is in government, and I am in history (they are in the same dept. here) She is in her office finishing a paper on how crappy NAFTA is. I am finisshing a paper for my class on the Gilded age (book review, historigraphical comment) ... well, actually, I'm not - I am posting here and not getting my work done. Why are y'all doing that to me?

my job history just looks really really bad. I've either been in school or working as a free lance musician for the last 11 years. I've never had a "job" for much longer than 6 months. I've only ever applied for a job because I need money. It's hard to sound enthusiastic and hide the fact that fact when that's the reason for work. I'm no good at lying anyway.

The last time I had a day job was in the 80's, working as an assistant manager at a book store. It was part of a regional chain of stores that doesn't even exist anymore.

I still have a resume lying around somewhere, but it's basically useless.

and sometimes I feel like I haven't accomplished all that much. :shrug: But then I think about "It's A Wonderful Life," and all that, and I figure I've been a pretty good friend to some people over the years...not nearly as good as they've been to me, but maybe, just maybe, the world is just a little better because I'm here. :shrug: (I'd like to think so, anyway, but who can tell?)

As a Realtor, back when I had better use of my knee, I was a buyers agent and managed to work some pretty good deals for people.
One that comes to mind first was the two women who were hearing impaired. They had been renting and the landlord had a nasty habit of coming in uninvited. They were unable to qualify for a normal loan but I had a guy who had two rental townhomes who was not hurting for money who had expressed an interest in selling one of his units.

Anyway, I put deal together, the owner held the financing which was a decent rate, they paid equal to what comps were going for and became homeowners. I took a reduced commission to make things work and everyone was happy, especially the buyers.

I didn't do a ton of deals since I dealt alot with the impaired and it took more time, but it sure gives me warm fuzzies to think back on my happy clients/customers.

27. Audio Al and I have been married 35 years since 2/04/73.

We've moved a lot of molecules around for all those years. This is Ellen's Theory of Molecular Momentum.

All in all, it's been a good life, but not without its setbacks.

We raised five kids from our former marriages.

Each of us has had three career changes.

Lots of personal stuff to work out which I won't discuss here.

It's a life!

I just turned 35, so by my reckoning I am about halfway through my potential life-span. I hope to save more birds in this second half.

I've released some records (the music kind - I lost the taco eating competition), traveled the world making music, met gobs and gobs or great people, etc.

It's not all great though. I've also slept on lots of couches and floors, scrounged up change to buy things like food and gas, would have been homeless on several occasions if it weren't for the charity of friends and family, etc. It's also been really hard to keep any sort of relationship together. Has it been worth it? Yeah. Still I'm worried about how I can keep this going into my 30s and later.
