"Hail to the Chief" is a horrible piece of music.
And why, exactly, is it played when the President walks into the room? It's so silly.

I just saw the umpteenth President's Sale ad on television where they played "Hail to the Chief" in the ad.

1. Just make up words to it.
Like the Jack Lemon character in the movie "My Fellow Americans"

Hail to the Chief
He's the chief and we must hail him.

I forget the rest.

2. Lemmon's went like this:
Hail to the chief
He's the chief and he needs hailing
He is the chief
So everybody hail like crazy

I liked James Garner's better, though:

Hail to the chief
If you don't, I'll have to kill you
I am the chief
So you better watch your step, you bastards

:D

Someone should record "Hail to the Chief" over "Itsy Bitsy Spider."

4. It's being replaced by presidential fiat.
The new anthem is called "Heil to the Decider" and was written and performed by Ted Nugent.

From now on the President's Own Marine Band will include three jarheads with Les Pauls and Marshall stacks.

19. I could get behind that.
Can we have the Navy do it instead, and have sweet-ass blue and gold SG's?

20. "ruffles and flourishes" is played for anyone of Flag Officer or higher rank
and the words to it, as I recall:
"jump through the hole in your ass"

16. I can't remember which president it was, but the first lady
wanted it played because her hubby the president was small in stature so it signified that the president had entered the room

24. Julia Tyler
Julia Tyler, the wife of John Tyler, asked that the music be played when the president made an appearance. That information came from the Wikipedia.org page on "Hail to the Chief".

18. This version is awesome
Hail to the Chief
He's the best of all the surgeons
He needs a queen
To satisfy his urges.

Hail to the Chief
He's the best of all the Trappers
He needs a queen
To sit upon his lapper.

Hail to the Chief
He's the best of all the cutters
He needs a queen
To satisfy the others.

Hail to the Chief
Our Colonel did elect him
He took his orders
And shoved them up his rectum.

21. Ive played it many times
and a few of them for actual presidents.

Personally, I think the Vice President's march "Hail Columbia" is much better.
