An old Jewish man reads about Einstein's theory of relativity...
An old Jewish man reads about Einstein's theory of relativity in the newspaper and asks his scientist grandson to explain it to him.

"Well, zayda, it's sort of like this. Einstein says that if you're having your teeth drilled without Novocain, a minute seems like an hour. But if you're sitting with a beautiful woman on your lap, an hour seems like a minute."

The old man considers this profound bit of thinking for a moment and says, "And from this he makes a living?"

14. I should hope so... lol
I had to correct some nutcase evangelical preacher on campus, when he tried to use relativity to defend creationism..

'magine that.

3. Why did Einstein cross the road?
To get away from Bohr, but when he got there, Bohr was there, too.

7. Actually, Einstein himself once said much the same thing
"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. " -- Albert Einstein

Of course he was joking, since special and general relativity have nothing to do with subjective time at all.

11. Yeah, I seem to remember that quote.
Unfortunately, that's the quote the masses use to explain it, and they don't understand that it's not a subjective effect, but a very real one.

15. in my modern physics class today
we were talking about how various natural phenomena can be explained as resulting from relativistic effects. it was quite fascinating. and yes now that i've been learning about it i realize how clueless the average schmoe (aka me a week ago ;))is about the way the universe works heh.

19. The utter lack of understanding how the universe works
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 05:42 PM by Rabrrrrrr
in this country is, at times, quite depressing. We teach almost nothing in physics, and most people don't care anyway. They also dont' care about math, and then they end up doing stupid crap like playing the lottery or going ballistic when the engineer tells them "No bridge can be made perfectly safe" or "Why did my $7,000 car cumple up when I hit the lamppost? Why don't they make lampposts softer and safer? Why don't they make my car hard enough to not get smashed?"

ARGH!!! :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:

He also stole the patent for Shrinky-dinks.

17. Did you see that in Family Guy?
I think it was Family Guy that showed a little flashback clip of someone bringing the theory of relativity into the patent office, and Einstein kills the guy, and runs off with it. Very funny!

Growing up around Jews in NYC, I can see the beauty of the logic.

Good answers all....a sense of humor is a great thing. In the end, it's all relative to a healthy life.

Just my theory.
