If you drop your cell phone on subway tracks, forget it, it's gone

Lina Villegas dropped her phone shortly after 2 p.m. at the Grand Avenue station in Elmhurst. She was trying to climb back up to the platform, with the help of two other people, when she was hit by a southbound V train.

Authorities say she died at the scene.

"While sad her for family, straphangers at the station were not sympathetic about the actions that led to the accident.

“It’s pretty stupid,” said one woman. “The MTA can help you out. If you have any problems, just go to the booth. Ask for help, and they’ll call somebody to go on the tracks.”

“It’s not that important,” another subway rider said of the cellphone."
