If you don't know the name of it you can look it up on this extensive list of Phobias

Mine don't seem to be on the list which is crowded elevators and pickles.

But I can definately say we all have Bushophobia (A fear of Bushes).

am OK with it.
I also have kind of a fear of answering the phone/checking mail...just in case it's bad news.

4. I can't pronounce it
Lilapsophobia - fear of tornadoes and hurricanes. I'm not all that afraid of hurricanes except they can spawn tornadoes. I hate tornadoes.

I'm much better now than I used to be since I used to be afraid every thunderstorm was going to contain a tornado.

My phobia came about when I was 5 and a tornado hit Dallas. My Mom put us under the bed and told us not to breath or move. We could hear the noise of the tornado as it passed overhead. After it was all over I asked my Mom why she turned dinner off and she told me it was because tornado's could see, smell, and hear. As an adult I knew that wasn't true but the little kid in me never got the message.

I understand why my Mom said what she did since she wanted to impress on us the importance of minding her when it was really important but it has created a life time fear.

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 10:55 AM by bearfan454
Like the ones in Lake Charles, La and the one over Lake Superior dividing Wisconsin and Minnesota. I took my son fishing 3 times in Canada back in the day. When Mrs bearfan and I went to visit my parents in Fla 3 years ago, when we got to the bridge I had to turn off the radio and really concentrate and tell her no talking for 10 minutes please honey. Weird I know, but it bothers me.

electrical appliances et al before going to bed at night. Drives my husband batty. But I lived in a mobile home once upon a time. I happened to come home early from work one night and my husband and daughter were sleeping and a little blaze had started up caused by the heating tape. 26. Thats not necissarily a phobia
Do you have to do it repeatedly or will one pass suffice.
If mutliple passes are required it sounds more like an obsessive compulsive disorder. It is lilely treatable. It is caused by the way the brain keeps track of things. It sets flags for tasks it has to do. In this particular disorder the flags are not checked and the need to redo the task becomes compulsive.

I have been attacked by numerous birds:
Mockingbird, Chicken, Goose, Gull, Pigeon, Blackbird, Blue Jay, Duck, etc. The most vicious was a blackbird that attacked me, got tangled in my hair, and pecked the crap out of my head. I needed 12 stitches to repair the damage. Birds and I just don't get along.

Dentists and Needles. Eesh. I can watch decapitations, open heart surgery, a Bush speech, but if that needle comes out my fiancee has to cover my eyes quick or the armrest gets ripped off. Dentists have to gas me into oblivion before they can even get near me. Toss in a complete immunity to novacane and a Dentist in prison for drugging, kidnapping, and sexually assaulting a patient and I its fair to say I am pretty wigged out about Dentists.

42. Claustrophobia -- closed in, tight spaces, where choices get narrow...
Not just tight physical spaces, but situations where your physical space and choices are impacted -- for example, being in a dentist's chair (I'm excluding any fear of pain here, as that doesn't bother me). You've literally got someone in your face, and your choices are narrowed -- if you get up to leave, the work isn't finished, you'll just have to come back.

A airplane is hellish since it's a cramped, crowed space, and your choices are *really* cut down -- you can just say, Hey, stop this thing, I've had enough. You sealed in for the duration of the ride, like it or not.

Damn, my palms are sweating just typing this!

62. I have a variation of that.
Planes don't scare me, we're moving, we're going somewhere. Neither do few choices. But enclosed spaces no matter their size, oy man, get me OUT! Rooms with only one door and no windows, or only windows above the reach of fire ladders. If am stuck in one location, if there is no movement, that gets me freaked OUT! I need escape route OUT of a building.
It doesn't get to me much, but I had a class in high school in a basement and the room had ONE DOOR and thats IT! I had to sit near the door, I had to!

My muscles are all tensed up!

Aichmophobia - needles

Photoaugliaphobia - a fear of glaring lights. Although mine is more a fear of floursecent lights, I hate lights that are too bright. They give me headaches.

Stenophobia - Narrow things or places

Strangely, they didn't list other fears of mine: being stuck in a space with no windows (not the same as claustrophobia), narrow-minded people, and office cubicles. (ok, the last one is a joke, but I still dislike them.)

When I get near ants, I get chills and nausea, start sweating, and have to get away from the nest. Sometimes it rather sucks being a gardener in Texas, where fire ants are a daily hazard!

I want to fight Bush and the neo-cons, so I can't really put them as phobias. It's more of a disgust, like I can't watch or listen to Bush and the neo-cons on TV or radio.

67. Spiders
There are other things that I'm afraid of, or creep me out, but with spiders it is a full blown phobia. I really need to seek help; it's that bad. I shudder to think what would happen if I was driving, and a spider jumped on me. I'm always on the look out for them, wherever I am.

72. Hieghts, and chionophobia.
Which is fear of snow. That is, being snowbound alone, with the power out. And that could happen tonight; we are to get 3-6" here, which is enough to knock out our '3rd world' power grid. Not happy, right now, but I do have a case of beer ready.
