I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled later this morning. It's not impacted, just growing out crooked.

I won't be awake to witness the action, but I find myself wondering just how they get that sucker out of there. It doesn't seem possible to just grab it with pliers and pull. Do they drill it out? Cut it out? Break it up and pick out the pieces?

Like I said, I don't really want to know, but tell me anyway.

1. Depends on the surgery

If it's out far enough they will pull it with pliers.


Otherwise they will smash it with a chisel and pull out the pieces.

But don't worry- the drugs they give you will be good and numbing. They will also make you sleep away the painful days.
