1. NO Income Tax
..been there, tried that, lost half our sensible representatives in a battle over a state income tax.

With local option here in Johnson City, sales tax is 9.75%. The state gets 6%, give or take. Very regressive.

4. My blood boils
every time I think about what happened when they were trying to pass the income tax. All those idiots out on the capital lawn banging drums, and that stunt Blackburn pulled. A lot of the people that vigorously protested it probably would have paid even less in taxes if they had gone with a more progressive income tax instead of raising the sales taxes through the roof.

But, at least we have a lottery now :eyes:

3. No, but they do tax you.

Sales taxes are big in TN since they have no state income tax. They vary depending on the item, but statewide sales taxes generally start at 8.25% and go up from there. The sales tax is 9.25% on some consumer products, and the rate goes up even higher for big-ticket items. Of course, some localites are going to add even more than that onto the sales tax. Also, food is not exempt from sales tax.

They tax the very thing that people absolutely have to have?
Man, I can't believe the populace puts up with that crap.

6. Yep
Having groceries taxed is weired to me, and took some getting used to. It adds significantly to the bill. Isn't that awful? I'd rather have a state income tax.
