1. My dear SallyMander!
I see it as a fun excuse for a little romance!

But I am a very romantic woman...

I prefer to look on the non-cynical side of things whenever possible...

Another opportunity to realize I'm not in the popular crowd...

My SO is usually exhausted from having to remember my birthday (four days before Valentines Day) so he tends to forget Valentines Day. I'll either get a) a phone call, b) a song dedicated to me on the radio, c) a carnation someone is selling out of a bucket at the gas station, or d) nothing.

Best valentine's day present I think I ever gave was one that didn't cost me a cent. Because the best presents are the personal ones.

Of course, in order to get the present to her, I had to buy a plane ticket... so that cost a bit of money. :P

and give myself extra attention.

But it's taken me a decade to get there. I used love Valentine's Day. Then I hated it with the white-hot rage of a 1000 burning suns.

Now I like it again. Just today I made a note to send Valentine's to my little niece and Nephew. :loveya:

For myself on that day, I will probably take myself out somewhere and be pampered.

Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 11:53 PM by socialdemocrat1981
every Valentine's Day of my recent life and probably will be for the rest of my life. And it reminds me of my failures and shortcomings in love and it's a day I'd rather didn't exist

Of course if I were in a relationship/married, it would be different

It will be additionally sad too because this year will be the first Valentine's day without my mum -which will of course make it even more depressing for my mother.

63. Don't mean to be nosy, but were you born in 1981?

If so you are WAAAAYYY too young to be feeling like a failure and/or plotting the rest of your life alone!

Of course, i think people are always too young for that. I had a teacher in HS who met the love of her life in her 50s, and was happy as could be.

Sorry to hear about your loss though -- my condolences to you and your family.

And it just goes to prove that I have no creativity choosing usernames:)

Thanks for the encouraging words:yourock: -perhaps you're right. I probably have too much of a jaded view of life because most of the past decade or so has taken me to new lows in my life that I could never have even imagined a decade or so again.

And thanks for your condolences too -they mean a lot:hug: I'm not looking forward to May either -both my mom's birthday and Mother's Day both usually fell within the same week.

53. Once I sent a valentine to a dear friend...
It wasn't romantic...just a friendly "I'm thinking of you" kind of message, along with a note to say I hoped she was doing well, etc. But I never heard anything from her after that. I think she may have misinterpreted my intentions.

Remember when we had Valentine parties at school? We had a list of all the kids in the class to give those little cheezy valentines to, so nobody would be left out. And the moms would make cupcakes; and we'd bounce off the walls from all the red dye #40 we consumed. I loved it!

Did you ever try to contact her to clear it up?

It's bizarre that she would be that put-off, even if there WERE romantic intentions. I would probably just say i was flattered, or something. :wtf:

V-day parties in elementary school... oh they were ridiculous! And once you got a little bit older, do you remember trying to "read between the lines" of the valentine from the kid you had a crush on??? :D

I hope I never get another card or candy or any romantic piece of crap ever again on that day. A shitty day in a shitty month.

Don't ask, you don't wanna know.

My username is Inuit for "fallen snow floating on water". I picked it because no one else would have it and when I imagine that picture in my head it is very peaceful and beautiful. I like snow. :)

He flew to Columbus from Tulsa that very day and I took him out to my favorite Thai restaurant on Goodale(now gone), and then downtown for a carriage ride...a very chilly carriage ride. LOL It was nice tho, because we snuggled in together.

86. Slightly overrated
I like Valentines day, but it's become so commercialized that it's lost most of its charm for me. I'd rather have a little spontaneity and originality, and it doesn't have to cost anything.

Not that I'm bitter or anything. Nope. Not at all. :yoiks:
