Discontinued softdrinks
Does anyone remember all or any of the following softdrinks?

Pepsi Max
Pepsi XL
Storm (lemon-lime)
Josta (with Guarana)
Crystal Clear Pepsi
Pepsi Blue
Coke 2
Surge
RC Edge
Mr. Green

It makes you wonder if the FDA wasn't at work in some of these decisions. Most likely, people just got sick of this stuff. Anybody really like any of these old drinks and want to see them make a comeback?

I wonder, though, if the carbonation and fiber would mix very well. You could be on to something here.

23. coca-cola plus a little prune juice tastes pretty damn close.
i once asked a bartender for a dr.pepper (alcohol gives my wicked migraines, i can't even eat anything cooked with alcohol.)

he said, "i don't have dr.pepper, but i can make you one!" and he told/showed me and damn that sure tasted like dr.pepper!

give it a try sometime! go heavy on the prune juice if you want to "improve" on the good dr.!

65. GACK! Vernor's "Barrel Aged" Pig Urine!
I shot a Vernor's commercial years ago, and I still have three cases sitting in the garage--I use them as a table for my winch.

the poor kid in the commercial had to drink gallons of that crap, and it was a shot where he had to actually swallow it, not just hold it and spit once we cut camera.

For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily drink that stuff, at least whenever Windex is an option...

Or was Mt. Dew the competitor's brand which ended up winning the market?

8. Canfield's Diet Chocolate Fudge Soda.
Actually, I just discovered that it still exists somewhere. People will think this is sick, but I used to love the stuff in high school.

I think Coke II might still exist in some parts of the country too. I like that stuff--I think it's what "New Coke" was during the period of outcry against the recipe Bill Cosby could not sway people on.

Also, there are smaller failed efforts like "Like Cola."

I think clear sodas are doomed in the long-run. In the early 90's, there was a health craze that seemed to lean against artificial colorings, but in people seem to love their caramel color and FD & C Yellow #5 et al.

47. "Like" Cola...?
Was that the caffeine-free Coke product test-marketed in California in the early 80s? I'm not sure, since I couldn't remember its name, but that drink was the best-tasting cola product I've ever tasted (although I'm sure it was quite worthless for late-night study purposes). I used to drink that all the time when I was living in L.A., but could never find it when I moved up here to Seattle. It might have been called "Like," but I'm not sure.

15. Crystal Clear Pepsi was FOUL
One of my housemates at the time was practically a Pepsi addict, and she brought some of the stuff home. We all agreed that it tasted like something out of a high school chemistry lab.

The dearly departed soft drink that I miss most is Hires Root Beer. There's a BBQ joint in my neighborhood that has a lot of old-time signs in its decor, and one of them is an ad for Hires Root Beer.

I asked them if they actually served the stuff, and the guy behind the counter said, no, but that I was only one of many to ask the question.
