1. If it's written against a Delaware bank, no. Hell no.

2. If it's written against the First Toll Booth Bank of Delaware, then it's OK!

4. Two weeks?
That's nothing! Most people that I give checks for classes don't get around to depositing them for months. I know what you mean: my own financial status can fluctuate from one week to the next.

If the phone number's on the check, you might call first. I know I'd appreciate a gesture like that.

5. If it is a local bank and made out directly to you
it might be easiest to just stop by their bank and cash the check. That way if the funds arent available they wont be charged a bounced check fee. They just wont cash it for you.

Or you can call the bank the check is written on and ask to verify funds in an account. Give them the check amount and they will tell you if it is currently good. They wont guarantee funds will be there when the check arrives, but checks sure clear fast nowadays.

I dont think 2 weeks is excessively long to wait to cash a check. I usually only reconcile my checkbook once a month and dont even notice when someone hasnt cashed one of my checks until I do.
