What is your greatest (irrational) fear?
I have a big fear of being institutionalized (psych ward/prison/boot camp), even though I've never done anything, and probably never will, to get myself in that situation.

What are some of yours?

6. yeah that and also storm drains
I suppose my ultimate fear is that I would be homeless and have to live in a storm drain. With clowns. All of a sudden my anxiety is kicking in, go figure.

Don't worry too much about it! :)

My biggest irrational fear is, uhm, actually, I don't think I know what my biggest irrational fear is, I don't think I have one. My fear/hatred of authority seems rational, but some idiots may consider it irrational, I don't know.

19. I'm afraid of thunderstorms and tornadoes ...
Thunderstorms are common here, tornadoes happen but they are rare --although a couple of years ago I was driving home from work and heard a tornado warning on the radio for a town about 5 miles up the road from where I was....:scared:

God knows why I have that fear. I've never felt the urge to jump onto the third rail, but I'm afraid that I will feel that urge.

25. I'm scared as fuck of clowns too...
... and a hospital in the UK did a study among kids and young adults, and 100% of the kids and youth said that they hate clows and are totally freaked out by them. The kids also asked that adults ask them what they like, rather than assuming about it and decorating rooms or having people visit dressed up like the very thing that freaks them out - being in hospital is stressful enough!

Your pic reminded me of that, and I just wanted to share.

As far as I'm concerned this:

is MUCH scarrier than:

Because the second one is meant to be scarry/freaky, so in many ways it isn't. The first one scares the crap outta me.

24. That the bushes/neocons/supply-siders will destroy American Democracy
It is why many of us are here.

On a personal level: being cut up with sharp blades, being killed and eaten by wild beasts, are equally fearsome for me. (Which explains my severe needle phobia.)

26. Dogs - especially large ones
The way they run up to you and bark and yap and especially jump on you upsets me.

Rationally I know it's just typical dog behaviour, but I find it too abrupt and almost like an attack. I recoil from it most of the time.

31. That I'm destined for failure....
...Here's how my irrational mind talks to me:

"You haven't achieved your goals yet, have you?"
"No. Sir."
"So what makes you think you can?"
"I dunno. Hope?...Maybe?"
"Have you tried?"
Yes. Yes yes yes!!! You know I have."
"Have you succeeded?"
"No."
"Then you have failed. You are a failure. Q.E.D."
"But-but-but--"
"But WHAT? The logic is infallible. Don't you see that?"
"I guess. Okay. You win. (sigh)"

34. toy balloons
I don't like:

  • touching them
  • seeing them doing nothing
  • seeing them being inflated
  • inflating them whether by mouth or with a pump
  • any noise they make including squeaking, inflating, deflating and exploding
  • the smell
  • when they deflate and fly around the room
  • when a lot of them fall from the ceiling
  • when they get bounced around at a party

Strangely enough, one time I was driving down the road and saw a small child lose her toy balloon. I chased it down and brought it back to her.

She thought I was wierd.
