So...how's the weather in San Francisco? (need packing help)
:)

Yeah, baby, I'm coming to town. Getting there tomorrow night, busy as a bastard all day Friday, wide open on Saturday, protesting at Livermore on Sunday, and home again on Monday. Is it a typical long-sleeve-leather-jacket summer out there so far? What should I pack?

1. Hey Will! Headed there too on Saturday
Looks like 70s and Sunny all week. GOing to Pac Bell on Sunday and then seeing the Red Sox in Oakland later in the week.

4. Foggy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon.
Like always. Jeans, sneakers, t-shirts and a jean weight jacket should do it. At least that's what I wear every day of my life.

5. The key to dressing in SF
Layers!!!

Forcast looks like typical "summer" weather. Low 60's and low 50's. Sometimes it might hit in the 70's.

Bring something you can take off a layer when you need to cool off and something handy to put back on when you freeze your ass.

I love San Francisco, but I hated the summer weather.

6. I would say typical so far
Might want some more summer-like wear just in case, but for the past few days at least it's been the usual chilly nights...

though last night was quite nice!

Never too many sleeves in your bag for SF

8. The usual SF weather
Cool and pleasant in the afternoons. Layering is the best way to dress.

9. Been A Little Warmer than Usual Lately
Not hideously so, but short sleeves during the day would work.

10. lots of micro-climates
Bring one of everything! :)

From parts of SF near the ocean to Livermore, temperature can vary 15-20 degrees in the summer. City is cooler, outlying suburbs like Livermore can be quite a bit warmer. From my time living in the Bay Area I would guess that Livermore would be in the 80's at least this time of year. Good news is Bay Area doesn't usually get humidity.

Keep in mind too, that unlike some other parts of the country, the temperature drops in the evening. Think layers. When I was a kid we would have relatives visit from Ohio and they never thought to bring a wrap and would freeze at night.

11. As stated..
we are in old style summer weather with it cool and moist in the mornings, warming considerably late morning/early afternoon, and cooling back down at night. We've also had a lot of evening fog recently which makes it really chilly. Where you are staying may not get as much of the fog as west of the Peaks.

I would suggest a "I Got Crabs at Fisherman's Wharf" sweatshirt will do just the trick. :)

14. Never forget the famous Mark Twain quote
"the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." It's just a trifle hyperbolic, but the Pacific coast can be awfully chilly when you're expecting summer weather. And that damp fog is penetratingly bone-chilling.

Here in Seattle it's been way too hot, up until yesterday when we reverted to more normal Pacific NW summer weather - cool and partly cloudy.
