but not explicitly. It was the episode where the Simpsons like the rest of the town are exploited by a charismatic cult leader who believed in some sort of alien-centric creation story, but it turned out as a money-making scheme. Does anyone remember the episode I'm thinking of?

A large part of the brainwashing is when they make you tell the CoS everything about your life, every secret and everything you're ashamed of. They present it in the guise of therapy, but what it really is for is to blackmail you in case you leave the church, and/or criticise the church.
