At what temperature is your thermostat set?

5. Don't have a thermostat for the heat.

We heat with wood that we get
from keeping deadfall cleared
on our property and cutting back
overgrowth into the fields.
If it is too cold in the house,
I open the draft on the heater
and add another piece of wood if
needed. It is currently about

6. My furnace is out of commission, so I am using space heaters.

During the day they are off, but at night, I turn them up to 80.

If I'm cold, I turn it on. When I'm not cold anymore, I turn it off. Average winter temp in my house is probably about 60F or so when I'm home and awake, low 50s when I'm not there or am asleep. That seems perfectly natural to me-- it always seems strange when I visit someone's house with a real thermostat and more-or-less constant temperature.

I was on for morning school carpool today and I had to start up the car 10 min early to get the ICE off!

I've got a fire burning in the woodstove, that helps.

11. I once had a wood stove

It was a fireplace insert. Oh, dog, I loved that sucker. I'd buy half a cord of seasoned oak around October and start a fire with one of those Duraflame mini-logs. Wake up in the morning and the house was still in the '70s. :D

17. Yup, we're already into our second 1/2 cord. In fact, it's almost gone!

after years and years of having an open fireplace, we finally decided to spend the money on a decent woodburning insert last Nov. It's got a two-speed blower that kicks in automatically. :thumbsup: We're hoping it'll make a huge difference on our heating bill.

10. my thermastat is set

at...nothing.....as a matter of fact, the breaker that controls the thermastat/blower for our heater is currently off....

we use a woodstove...and currently, the inside temp is 60 degree's, its 29 outside, with the WC its probably in the low teens/single digits....I'm debating whether to start a fire, or not...perhaps a poll.

I live in a RV. I pay $200 per month for Rent, electricity, Internet, Phone, and Cable. My space heater is on full-blast. It is really warm in this tin can of a house.

It's at 60 overnight and during the day when we're not home, up to 67 for an hour in the morning while we're getting up and going, and from about 6-10 at night while we're home. Have been thinking about setting it colder overnight and during the day.

They sit around dressed like it is August outside, so they are cold and turn up the gas.

That is why I moved upstairs, couldn't stand the heat.


We have woodburning stove downstairs but they won't use it.

27. I learned my lesson last winter -- gotta keep the heat high enough so you don't kill the hamster

I was so proud of being energy conscious, until poor little hamster died from one night of 55 degrees. Now that I'm a hamster murderer I keep the furnace set to 70.

30. Living Large here in Maine - 60 degrees is my daytime low

I can do 60 but not 58 as evidenced from the steam rising off my husband's toast the other morning. I too jacked the puppy up and thru caution to the wind. I DO have a wild side!
