I'm grading papers online...first go...not sure what I think
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 08:57 PM by darkstar
As expected, perhaps, it's taking me longer per essay here at the outset. Plus I keep thinking I'm going to screw up a privacy setting.

But it's is neat in that it can really cut down the turn-around time for individual students, i.e. the 6 I'm finished w/ will know their grades tonight instead of having to wait until, say, Friday to get theirs back with the other 16.

But just because it's my brave new world, doesn't mean some of y'all haven't been doing this for years. So, as student or teacher, have you worked this way? Did you like it? Do you recall the web host?

1. I hate it when my instructors don't utilize online grading.
It leaves me with an unfavorable opinion of their abilities.

3. When I was a student at the University of Maryland, several of my instructors used online grading
I think it's a great system and I am sure your students feel the same way. Some students may not care but the ones that do will surely appreciate your being prompt. Just be careful you don't let them get too used to it! :-)

4. I'm not sure what you mean by online grading
I am a GTA for an online course and an in class course. I have only done the in class before. I have never graded online, but I have posted grades online ... but not until after they are all graded ... then I post them all at once.

The online course will be a new one for me. I don't know whether the Instructor will grade them or let me do some of the grading. We have our first test in that course on Thur - Sat.

6. Here's the web host we're using.
There's a pretty bare bones flash "tour" to take....

Looking around the web. I had, frankly never heard of it before. I am back in graduate school after a few years awa from school. I graduated from undergrad in 1975 and from Law School in 1981.

I did all my papers on an electric portable Royal that I got for high school graduation. My daughter has the 1937 Royal that my Dad used to type his masters thesis.

We've come a long way.

Frankly, I like to turn in a hard copy of papers I do. I prefer the tactile feel of the completed paper. I don't feel that sense of finality until I see a crisp clean cover sheet.

Also, I really find it easier to read a hard copy than being forced to sit in front of a computer to do this.

Just my $.02
