DU Grammys:! Vote for Album of the Year, Worst Song of Year, etc.
For easy copying

Album of the Year
Best New Artist
Worst New Artist
Worst Single
Worst Trend

My choices

Album of the Year: Pearl Jam - Lost Dogs

Best New Artist: uh....tough one. can't think of any?

Worst New Artist: JET. I bought their album upon hearing the comparisons to the Stones and to Iggy Pop. Nononono. They RIP OFF Iggy on their crappy single "Are you Gonna Be My Girl", which has been played on the NBC degenerate show Las Vegas, and is now playing on commercials for some cell phone brand.

Worst Single: Outkast - Hey Yaaaa. Can a song get any dumber and more discordant?

Biggest Disappointment: TIE Radiohead - Hail to the Thief (sounds like my toilet bowl utterances after gulping down 12 oz of Cutty Sark)
Metallica - St. Anger. A big joke. Not one solo. Shitty drum sound. Hetfield sounds like he has emphysema. Incoherent repetitive songs that drag for no purpose. Sloppy cheap nu-metal riffs.

Worst Trend: The "return of rock" bands which are all second rate classic rock revival artists. The Strokes are a sad guitar-primer version of Velvet Underground. JET is a Stones/Iggy Pop ripoff band. Soundtrack of our Lives is nauseating. The White Stripes, although Jack White is a fairly good guitarist for this day and age, have terrible vocals and a beginner on drums. The problem with these bands is that they tend to be kids-with-guitars, rather than musicians. They are more concerned with style than with musical innovation.

Feel free to add categories of your own that I may have forgotten

3. I know, that's why im dumbfounded by some of my own questions
We're really in a shitty musical era. The only good album I bought from 03 was Lost Dogs.

and I'm 18 and exposed to all the new bands.

2. Album of the Year: Dew Scented "Impact"
Album of the Year - Dew Scented - "Impact"
Best New Artist - Damageplan
Worst New Artist - Audioslave
Worst Single - So many it's hard to pick.
Worst Album - Metallica - "St. Anger" Complete and utter garbage. I can't call it a disappointment since they haven't put out anything good since 1988 but man does this album suck.

5. I've never heard of Dew Scented or Damageplan but agree on Tallica and Aud
I agree on Metallica and Audioslave. However, St. Anger was hheavily HYPED. metallicasucks.com said it was their best since And Justice For All. It was supposedly a "return-to-the-heavy".

Audioslave is a disappointment too since Soundgarden is my favorite band and Rage Against the Machine was one of my favorites. But Audioslave sounds uneven. Every song I think, hmmmm imagine how awesome it would sound with Zack De La Rocha rapping on this groove here, or imagine how Soundgarden would have performed this song. The two bands just don't blend that well.

and did you hear the song I Am The Highway? LOL! Listen to the solo. It's like "twinkle twinkle little star". tom Morello has always been second-rate to me. Kim Thayil would have ripped that song a new one.

9. Audioslave was late 02, but dominated the Clear Channel shit media for 03
my local "new rock alternative" station plays Audioslave at least twice per hour.

fuck clear channel and the whore radio ("we thank you for saluting the troops for protecting our freedom" is what was aired between songs during Op Iraqi Freedumb).

4. my choices
Album of the Year-Perfect Circle:13th Step

Best New Artist-Evanescence(I agree with the grammy's on this)

Worst New Artist-Hilary Duff

Worst Single: Milkshake-Kelis. I hate that song with every fiber of my being

Biggest Disappointment-Limp Bizkit: Results May Vary. When this cd came out, my support for Bizkit was waning fast, upon hearing it at my local Hot Topic listening station, I lost all support for them.

Worst trend-Bubblegum pop. All these bitches like Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff, and others dominate the charts when real bands like Audioslave, Korn, and Perfect Circle don't get anywhere near the attention they deserve

p.s. What exactly is ur problem with Outkast. They are just about the only rappers who you could call "musicians"

8. My response
I don't think the singer of Evanescence can sing very well. Her voice is THIN.

Limp Bizkit has been shit for a while. I too heard the album at a Hot Topic listening station. Just a terrible band.

I don't think Outkast sounds good. I don't see how they are musicians. I haven';t heard them play a guitar solo or a keyboard solo or anything. Maybe they make their own samples, but they're too tame for me.

10. Geez I'm old...
I haven't heard a lot of this stuff.

Album of the Year: Pearl Jam - Lost Dogs

... my brother in law got me Lost Dogs for xmas but I haven't listened to it.

Well, speaking as one who loves guitars and thinks they have been missing all too often from recent music, I don't think that's a bad thing. And I suspect there's very little innovation that will occur in rock music in the future. What is left to do? Eventually, all art forms run out of source material and end up repeating themselves (or moving into arty irrelevance).

12. my picks
Album of the Year - Blur - Think Tank - I love this band and think they are continuously the most overlooked, underappreciated group of the last decade

Best New Artist - dunno. can't think of any. I'll go with the Grammy pick of evanescence, only because of the shallow reason that I think Amy Lee is cute.

though if we include january of this year, I would say The So-and-sos

Worst New Artist - Darrel Worley

Worst Single - Have You Forgotten?

Worst Trend - the continuing success of american idol

and my category :
song of the year:
Johnny Cash - hurt

13. I think there's some pretty good stuff out there.
I think Outkast has a pretty good sound. Kind of a P-funk retro. And I think the Strokes and the White Stripes are pretty cool, too. Kind of a garage retro. Reminds me of the Stones playing "Around and Around" and the Beatles playing "Money".
Best song? Maybe Eminem's "Lose Youself". I think that rocks. The kid is talented. The song is inspirational.
Worst trend? OBVIOUSLY It's lousy no-talented over hyped spineless wimps like Justin Timberlake who completely suck up to the Right Wing Christian media who can't think of anything better to talk about during this very important election year, than Janet Jackson's right boob. Do you think they're possibly trying to distract us from the real issues? Geez, better suck up fast Justin. Your' entire career is on the line. Janet has a future. She doesn't have to get on her knees for anybody. Never has. She's inspirational too.
I guess she's my nominee for the best Artist that the Right Wing media got banned from the Grammy's. Janet will laugh all the way to the bank. Justin is thinking, "Whew! That was a close one! I almost got in big trouble with the man!"
