Urgent positive vibes needed
A couple of weeks ago, I went to the doctor for a physical (the first one I'd had in years due to my financial situation). The doctor found a lump in my right breast, which I had also found, but didn't think much of because I'm small breasted and generally lumpy anyway. I went for my mammogram on Friday, which was inconclusive because my breast tissue was so dense that they couldn't see the lump. It was also not visible by ultrasound for the same reason. Everyone can feel the lump, but no one can see it.

My doctor's office just called me back a little while ago because they got the report from the mammogram/ultrasound. The nurse said that the doctor wants me to see a surgeon. I asked if it was for a biopsy, and she said no, but that I should just wait for the surgeon's office to contact me.

I feel really in the dark here, and quite frankly, I'm scared to death. My brother went through testicular cancer a couple of years ago, but he caught his early and is fine now.

Please, I'm asking for positive vibes, prayers, or whatever suits your persuasion.

25. That seems really evil of them...
I can understand why they can't tell you anything (liability), but wouldn't it be better just to have the surgeon's office call you directly, with the info?

9. Hugs, prayers and vibes
my mother always says "if you claim it, you own it" meaning don't worry about it until you know there's something to worry about.

I'm sure that's easier said than done.

had a wonderful statement in mind about the need for universal health care, but while this may be the place, this is not the time...

I just said a prayer, and that doesn't happen too often

12. Thanks to all of you
Needless to say, I am a nervous wreck right now. I remember telling my brother not to freak out until he knew for sure, but I can't seem to calm myself down. I'm supposed to be contacted by the surgeon tomorrow...they have another office out of town and that's where they are today. Again, thanks for all of the positive vibes and prayers!!!

18. I wish I had something to occupy me
Unfortunately, right now, I really don't. The kids are at school, the husband's not home, and I've been unable to work for a while now due to problems with my back. I'm trying not to freak out, but it's nearly impossible. Again, thanks for the vibes and hugs!

20. That happened to me
The lump turned out totally benign, thank goodness. It was particularly scary since I'm the only female in my family who hasn't had breast cancer yet. Your doctors are probably being extremely cautious - which is a good thing. Most lumps are harmless, especially in young women, but it's best to make absolutely certain.

And I'm sending prayers and good vibes your way.

I'm 35 now, and I'm a smoker (yes, I know, I should quit), and I have to admit that I haven't exactly taken the best care of myself over the years...Maybe I'll learn to eat vegetables now.

28. Smoking is bad for you in hundreds of ways
But - fortunately - about the only bad thing it doesn't do is increase the chances of getting breast cancer. Alcohol and overweight are riskier in that respect.

So go get that lump looked at, but don't panic.

24. good vibes headed your way!

I hate it when everyone is so damn vague on the phone! It could be nothing, or it could be something; either way you'll be fine. My sister is a breast cancer survivor; her first occurrence was 10 years ago, her second was last summer. I don't mean to scare you - I'm sure you're fine - but all of her doctors have said (and she has, too) that they know SO MUCH MORE now than even in the late '90's, treatment is much more effective and less invasive, etc.

 Keep us up to date, if you can.

And I hate to nag you, but stop smoking, please. Really is very very important to your long-term health.

29. My Mom just went through this same thing...
a few weeks ago.

They found a lump on her mammogram and had her in with a surgeon without doing a biospy. They felt it was something they wanted to take out regardless of whether it was cancerous or not. They removed a golf-ball sized chunk of tissue that had calcifications in it that proved to be benign. They will check her again in 6 months to see if anything has changed.

I had my first breast lump scare when I was in my 30s. I found it on a Friday night and had to wait until Monday morning to get into my doctor's. You will udnerstand this wehen I say that was the l-o-n-g-e-s-t weekend of my life!

I know exactly how you are feeling -- I just found a groin lump two weeks ago. Had it looked at last week -- it's a 5cm mass, attached to the uterus or ovary, they can't tell which yet. I go to imaging in another two weeks. If it's the uterus, it is all good. If it is the ovary, well...it's 50/50. The idea of ovarian cancer scares the crap out of me. :scared:

But not knowing is the worst.

Once you know, you can handle it, whatever "it" is. But until then, your imagination gets going and you can freak yourself out in a nanosecond.

So, while you are waiting - hang tough, take some extra liquid B vitamins, eat lots of chocolate, and watch lots of funny movies.

And keep up posted! :hi:
