15. ewww
Man, do I hate Mahler. In grad school (unbeknownst to me) I had been given the nickname of "Mahler" by two girls - I guess I kind of look like him. Now one of them is my girlfriend.... ha! Apparently when she told the other friend she liked me, the response was, "You have a crush on Mahler?!"

My favourite composers are Christian Wolff and Alvin Lucier... if I had to pick two. If I had to pick one, I don't think I could.

21. I know Lucier by name and sight
because he taught where I went to school. I don't remember what his music is like. Was it Lucier who recorded and rerecorded his stammering voice over and over until it became almost a pure harmonic tone? If so, I liked that piece. I liked the idea of it. But I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite peices of music--even though I liked it so much I've created my own pieces based on it.

22. yeah, that was Lucier
I know him personally as well, but not too well. That piece (I am sitting in a room) is really good, but his new stuff is my favourite. When I met him this summer I heard the premiere of a piece by him for 'cello and orchestra which was one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

25. I have such a wide range of tastes, it's really quite hard to say.
I like most Beethoven, although he does tend to drag in the middle a bit. Great beginnings and endings though. I like a lot of the more recent russian composers like Shostakovic. But I also tend to listen to a lot of film scores.
