If I ran the Olympics...
1. NBC's TV contract would be broken. That network has fucked up Olympic coverage for too long.

2. The minimum age for all competitors would be raised to 18. No more teenagers sacrificing everything and not having a chance to be kids.

3. All competitors in the Summer Olympics would be required to compete in the nude, except for sports that require protective gear like Fencing.

4. Baseball would be reinstated for the 2012 games.

3. Hmmm, If I still had a star...
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 08:45 PM by JonathanChance
I'd be posting a poll asking which Olympic sport people would watch the most if the (age 18 or over) competitors were nude. (I, like many of the heterosexual men here would probably actually enjoy Women's Gymnastics. I'm sure many of our Heterosexual women and Gay Men here would say the same of Men's Gymnastics.)

Alas, I'm broke, and cannot afford to donate.

javelin throw would have prime-time coverage.

Not to mention the walking races.

on CBC.

Your rule number 2 makes sense after rule number 3.

Baseball? If you want "slow and dull", I guess.

:hi:

6. Athletes wouldn't have access to special technology such as
the swimteams who wore Nike suits which gave them advantages. Everyone would use the same type of shoe. Same type of bicycle. Same type of shorts, socks, and so on.

American TV would be just a fraction of coverage, and it certainly wouldn't be NBC. I've already seen enough athletes in corn fields to last a lifetime.

8. true enough
but we still need people to compete. then again, the major networks can put lines over a football field, no reason why they can't blur out the naughty bits.

21. "Naughty bits"
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 01:38 PM by billyskank
Reminds me of an art teacher from school who exclaimed to a giggling kid looking at a nude, "if your bits are naughty then that is your problem!"

9. Ditto except for the nudeness LOL, but I would make the Olympics last longer and
I would add competitive cheer to the list of sports. Can even use the gymnastics venue since they also use a spring floor.

10. NBC's coverage makes me crazy
Five minutes of action, ten minutes of puff pieces about athletes or the venue, five minutes of commercials, five minutes of action, ten minutes of puff pieces, five minutes of commercials, five minutes of action...

ABC's coverage was so much better...

17. I loved watching the Olympics in other countries
I was in Korea during the 96 Olympics, and Germany during the 92 Olympics.
Those foreign networks knew what they were doing. nothing but competition, 24/7. I also liked that they would show sports that weren't "crowd pleasers", like archery or fencing or rowing. Great stuff.

11. I would throw a shark in the pool
for synchronized swimming. That would make it a sport.
No professional players. None of this NBA or NHL stuff.
Rhythmic gymnastics would be history, as would equestrian events.
I'm with you on the baseball.

15. I dream of replacing it with takeshi's castle
If you aren't familiar with the takeshi's castle tv show, look it up - it's the best. no athletes.... just ridiculous things for people to do. It's like the olympics, but better.

16. NBC is the most painful programmers of Olympic Coverage
Four hours of primetime coverage that shows 3.5 hours of 'Special Interest' stories and 30 minutes of competition and only of those events where an American won the gold.

I use to anticipate the Olympics every four years but that was back when ABC had some say in the Olympics.

Now it's just another 3 weeks of TV ignored

22. The most obnoxious instance of concentrating on U.S. competitors occurred
during a women's track and field event in a recent Olympics, when the gold and bronze medalists were American, and the silver medalist was the great Jamaican athlete Marlene Otley. During the medal ceremony, the cameras focused in on the gold and bronze winners and completely shut out Otley, the silver medalist.

20. ALL US coverage sucks ...
Back in 1988, a group of us watched the opening ceremonies for the winter games. We had cable and it had a French-Canadian channel, so we'd switch back and forth.

The Canadian one showed the ceremony as is, music playing, acrobats on ropes doing amazing moves, while the US one it's "Ooooooh! Did you see that?" "Yes, that is so beautiful!"

Just shut up and watch it.
