My dog insists I give him pretzels...
but he doesn't eat them. It's the only thing I've ever seen him NOT eat.

He eats catshit and shoes, but give him a pretzel, and he takes it to his bed and bites it up into little pieces and just leaves 'em there.

4. Staggeringly, a google search for "catshit and shoe flavored pretzels" produces zero hits.
:(

However, what a great opportunity for a new product! One for which I'd love to see an ad campaign!

9. Then we need to start a business!
I've got plenty of catshit - running low on shoes, though.

3. well, if he's full after eating catshit and shoes
could you really expect him to have room for a good old pretzel?

5. Then why does he beg so insistently
when I'm eating them?

Well, he doesn't really beg - he sits next to me and looks longingly, giving out the occasional whimper.

6. good lord man
give the dog whatever he wants.

I don't know a human alive who can live with themselves if they ignore the whimper of a critter.

just do it! You'll feel better.

7. well it's really not good behavior to encourage
but it's a lost cause - my SO makes sure the dog gets the last bite of everything he eats.

I do it occasionally.

11. He thinks pretzels are salty sticks to just chew up and spit out.
:P  That's probably why he's so fascinated with them. My dogs do the same thing with grapes---could be food, could be a ball, so why not get them and just play with them?

14. My dogs loves grapes
My dogs eat grapes. They eat everything though. They are both big being airedales, so maybe they don't eat enough off the wrong stuff to kill them or make them ill. They've blown the chocolate myth out of the water for me too.

15. Those are NOT myths.

You should take that seriously and try real hard to NOT take the risk. Onions, garlic and macadamia nuts are also potentially toxic. While it may have not effected your dogs yet, I'd never intentionally give my pet something that has known toxic effects.

13. I have a cat that does the same
If I have pop corn or something salty she comes running and begs for it. She carries it off just to sniff it or have a quick lick.
