Yes I know...lots of rain, snow to 3000 feet, etc. etc.

I feel for the folks in the canyons, especially the ones that were racked with fire in October, because there will be mudslides.

It has been "stormy" for almost a week solid (today was sunny). I imagine folks are getting sick of the overcast.

1. The alternative, I think, is drought.
I would think that in LA they'd get tired of feeling guilty about flushing the toilet.

4. LA county at least has mandated the low-flow toilets...
There has been no increase in water usage here in some time, due to those requirements...

Lawns are a different problem, however...

Drought is a very real threat.

We live in a desert...

6. I think though, if more people Xeriscaped, we would have fewer problems during the droughts
I am slowly converting our landscape to a more native landscape. I hate having to water grass three times a week.

8. That is absolutely right!
The xeriscaping is what we did with our yard ...

It even won an award for that very thing!

We have no grass anywhere...

Good for you!

10. yes! abso-frigging-lutely! I spent the first 28 years of my life in SoCal;
a good part of that not too far from Palm Springs, and it was just so bizarre to see all these people insist on lush, green lawns. My sister lived near Phoenix for a while - same damn thing. The soCal/dry/desert landscape is beautiful - muted greens, sage green-gray-silver, etc. Xeriscaped lawns are lovely, and soooo much easier to care for. Who the hell wants to fart around with sprinklers and huge water bills?

7. When I lived in Hermosa Beach, I remember taking a shower with a bucket so I could use the water
collected for flushing.

I did it in San Diego too.

9. My dear NNadir!
Good for you!

We have the low-flow shower heads as well as the toilets that flush on one and a half gallons, or something like that...

You were part of the solution...

5. But I KNOW what a winter storm is.
My head explodes even more when the weather casters talk about "black ice" on the mountain pass roads.

Black Ice is not possible in California because it is a phenomenon that occurs when the ambient temperature is below zero, and all the moisture that is normally in the "pores" of the roadway seeps up and freezes on top, and what makes it so treacherous is that you cannot SEE black ice, it just looks like the roadway.

3. Yeah, our winters are nothing like Minnesota winters!
Storm warning?

Well, we just have to deal with something else here...

Like how cold it is!

It depends on what you're used to, right?

We do get mighty sick of the overcast!

The sunny days are most welcome...

Hope your head recovers!
