1. They do have to be renewed yearly....
...have you considered AVG's freeware for your anti-virus program? We have had great luck with it, and we just let Yahoo's security system handle the e-mail and other stuff...

2. Avast is another good, free option
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 04:24 PM by CatholicEdHead
I had a free 3mo demo pre-installed on my laptop. I had Norton before (2004, 2005) and disliked it on my old laptop. I decided to run the 3mo period out of Norton 2007 and cannot wait to dump it this weekend for ZoneAlarm and Avast. It is slow, annoying, and almost takes over your computer worse than lots of the malware out there.

3. Dump Norton. Get Nod32.
http://www.eset.com/

I don't think it's much cheaper, but it's WAY better.

9. Your Norton isn't about to stop working.
It's just going to stop updating with new virus descriptions.

10. I don't like Norton at all (and yes you have to pay yearly for it)
The program might mess with you if you decide to un-install and go for one of the others so be prepared. It embeds itself into the registry and can take "years" (a while) to find it all if it does cause trouble. Did I say I don't like Norton.

Good luck with whatever option you go for.

11. Twice they have informed me I have to renew
And twice I have ignored it. I use McAfee now and they don't send me those stupid renewal notices.
