People who hate cats are serious f***-up's
It's one of those opinionated days... and why not go off on this subject. It is my opinion that those who have an intense aversion to cats are more than likely people who are NOT to be trusted. Cat haters are f***ed in the head, if not downright evil and must die!!!!

Sorry folks, I'm in a pissy mood and cat haters make me even pissier. So F*** You Cat haters!!!!

3. I never hated cats. I used to think that they weren't as friendly as dogs.
I used to think that cats were so standoffish.

But having had a cat for 11 years now, I can see that I was very much mistaken. My cat is very affectionate and friendly...on her terms.

:-)

I think cats are just fascinating.

What do they do? All they do is sit there and act all stuck up.

I like dogs. At least they are willing to play, learn new tricks, and are actually loving to their owners.

65. Yep. I love 'em both too
I've known cold (often aggressive) dogs, and my sister had an aloof cat who seemed to lack any sort of personality at all when we were growing up, but the cats I've had since are great, and my late collie was as loyal as could be.Dogs and cats have personalities as varied as our own; a single one is never representational of the entire species or breed.

They pretty much do the standard dog tricks, plus a nice "high five" for guests. I used the clicker method ; www.clickertraining.com. They learn most tricks in about 30 minutes-and it's all done with positive opperant conditioning. There are even cat agility trials now due to clicker training!

Which, oddly enough, are the exact reasons they give for hating cats - their independant, believe in personal freedom, and are me-first.* So it's really, ironaically, only fitting that these cretins would be all about dogs, becuase what they REALLY believe in is authoritarian rule, trainability into absolute obedience, loyalty to the death, and other creatures subjugating their needs for one's own entertainment/power-issue needs.

*That is, the dog lovers who hate cats. Those who love both cats and dogs tend to probably be all over the political and psychological spectrum, since they are, at heart, animal lovers and not so much dedicated to one particular ideology.

Personall, I think cats are the most beautiful and wonderful of animals. I just wish I wasn't allergic to them so much.

to read my final response to Edge about this very same post.

I'm always amazed at people who will respond to a post, ages after it's posted, and when there's clearly already been dialogue about that post, without ever bothering to read the of the conversation.

Maybe I'm weird, but I like to read the whole of a sub-thread before jumping in, just to make sure I'm not re-treading something that's already been discussed and has moved on.

p.s. - if you had even read the entirety of my first post, you'd realize I was talking purely about people who love dogs AND hate cats, and you would have noted that, gosh, I wasn't talking about people who love ctas AND dogs. Did you actally read my post?

20. cats, the other white meat
cats are fine as long as you keep 'em in your house. we have stray cat problems in austin....people feeding outside cats which destroy property and native wildlife. so, any cat smaller than an ocelot needs a home and a litter box and a responsible owner.

i had indoor cats as pets when i was growing up. they were fine. i prefer my dog as a pet over any cat i've ever seen.

that said, i must say i really do love cats: jaguars, tigers, snow leopards, lions, ocelots, panthers, jagarundis. THOSE ARE CATS! the plain old house cats, you can have.

I don't prefer cats, as far as a non-human companions are concerned, but to "hate" an animal species simply because of perceived special traits is as absurd as any bigotry.

25. More pet cats than dogs
I just saw a long documentary on cats. There are 10,000,000 more cats as pets than dogs. We have four.

I grew up with dogs in my family of origin. They're great pets, but they can be just as destructive if they are not happy.

Ask the next person who criticizes cats as a pet, "when is the last time they heard of someone being maimed or killed by a vicious domestic cat?"

26. yep and people that declaw cats are seriously screwed in the head too
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 03:16 PM by twilight
Here's to all of you cat owners that mutilate your cats by declawing them - the most inhumane thing a person cat do to a cat! This is how a cat defends itself and their claws are their pride and glory.

People that declaw cats and pride themselves in it are seriously screwed in the head IMO. So, that saves their new sofa, BIG PHUGGIN DEAL! They should have thought about the sofa and how valuable it is to them before they even considered getting and keeping cats as pets. The day a sofa is more valuable than a loving pet cat is the day that you adopt NO MORE cats! You do not deserve to have one!

I say, lock these mutilators up that do this to their cats because it is a crime and it is now being worked on as an act that is not going to be legal for a whole lot longer thank God!

36. i've never declawed a cat, but i must ask......
....they need to defend themselves from what?

you mentioned that it might soon be illegal to declaw cats, and that's fine. but remember that cats, in most localities, must abide by the same leash laws as dogs. in other words pet cats must be in the house and if they are outside, they must be on a leash or otherwise confined to the property in which they live. so, what would cats (that have responsible owners) need to protect themselves from?

just curious.

63. So lock me up!
My two cats are declawed and suffer no ill effects from the declawing.

My cats can climb curtains without their claws, can defend themselves agains the aggressive furniture without their claws and have lived to a nice, ripe old age without their claws. Did I mention they are also excellent mousers?

My cats are strictly indoor cats and have nothing to defend themselves against. My dog is just as afraid of their swinging declawed paws as he would be their clawed paws.

I didn't get them declawed for the furniture, the drapes or any inanimate object. They were declawed because my (then) husband has leukemia and any scratch (whether from a cat or from anything) can turn septic. He's been in the hospital twice with staph that didn't respond to antibiotics and came so close to having his arm amputated that he had been given pre-op medications.

When cats are seriously defending themselves they use their back claws because they have more strength and can rip an opponents belly open with their hind legs. My cats still have their back claws.

So pull out your handcuffs Mister Officer and lock me up for not taking my cats to the pound when we found out about the leukemia. Better dead clawed cats than loved declawed cats, right?

CATS RULE!!!!!

I had a dog for awhile once, and I like dogs (as long as other people own them), but let's face it, dogs do drool, as well as sniff crotches, bite sometimes, bark in the middle of the night, etc. Plus, they are nowhere near as soft and lovely and purry as those wonderful, wonderful kitties!

I agree a lot of people, NOT ALL, who dislike cats have control issues and need to feel like they are in charge (kinda like Al Haig).

Did the Clintons have a dog?

And interesting that the criminal in chief would get rid of the cat. Wonder if that was done in order to appease the evil branch of the rightwinger cadre that bought his presidency?

Seem to remember Reagan had dogs. And Bush The First had one, didn't he? Wasn't it their dog that wrote the book?

What about Carter? Any pets, or too busy with brother billy?

Nixons, I seem to remember, had a dog. vaguely recalling a picture of Dick with a dog in hand, perhaps on his last day as president?

I'd imagine there have been far, far more dogs in the white house than cats.

48. I love cats. All shapes, sizes. I love them fried, broiled, and baked.
I love them on pizza, and with a side of coleslaw. I love kitten nuggets, cat paw and okra sandwiches, and pussy cheek Eggs Benedict.
I love kitty chips and salsa, Tom cat brisket and stray and noodle soup.

I love cats.

54. Cats hate cat haters
I had a cable TV installer in my home. I disliked him immediately because he treated me like an idiot (I've done cable TV wiring that would probably make his head spin - you try rigging two decoders, three VCR's and four TV's). I knew he was an asshole when the cats started hissing at him. He immediately identified himself as a dog person and said he hated cats.

55. Weellllll,
I know a person who has several birds. She gets mighty angry with stalking cats. She has a sign in her yard, something like "I love cats - they taste great."

I'm really an all-animal lover myself, but even I got upset with a neighbor who had a tomcat that pissed on all the neighbors front doors every night. Every time someone went in or out any front door, they got a good whiff of cat. Another (maybe the same) cat got his kicks by teasing my dog. My dog could go out whenever she liked into our fenced back yard. This cat loved to sit on the fence and aggravate the dog. I had to make sure I locked the doggy door at night so the dog couldn't get out and bark at the cat in the middle of the night and annoy the neighbors.

I've had cats most of my life, so I don't hate cats - I love them, but, on occasion, I take issue with "certain" cats.

60. What really strikes me
is how many of the people who dislike cats - for whatever reason, and they're certainly entitled to their opinion - talk about how they'd like to kill them. I have yet to hear someone who disliked or feared dogs say they wanted them all killed. What's the deal with that? Why do so many cat-haters want to KILL them? (Mind you, I'm not lumping everyone who dislikes cats into that - I know plenty of people just haven't ever been around a friendly cat.)

I love dogs. I love cats. I'm not so sure about a hell of a lot of people these days.

61. Wow, you got da devil in you, girl----------
But, even after having one in our home, for about 5-6 years,(because of our children's affection for it) I still say the only good cat is a "dead cat!!"
