Poll question: Favorite Sarah/Sara song?
In the name thread, a few of us were remarking about all the Sara(h) songs out there. Anyone have a favorite?

populistmom/Sarah

I think I like all them except the Starship one (but maybe it's because they're an odd, watered down version of a legendary band). It's a bit lame.
(and excuse my narcissism)

and I love the Starship song, as does she. Mickey Thomas rocks, and Grace ain't too shabby!

4. Bad memories I guess
I remember when this came out, I was a very nerdy 13 year old and there was one of those snotty popular girl types that kept singing this song at me to tease me, but I suppose inherently, the song isn't bad really.

5. Sara Smile is a great friggin' song.
Folks may poke fun at me for liking it; but it's one hell of a tune, and Darryl Hall's finest vocal ever.

9. It made for a great moment in the movie "Serendipity," too...
John Cusack was stuck in the back of a cab in traffic during his wild goose chase for his "soul mate" (yes, named Sara) and some slacker dude on a bike with a Walkman leans against his window and starts singing "Sara Smile."

So I have a double whammy. I like "Serendipity" as much as I like the song.

14. I love that movie
I tend to be one of those silly people that look for these "signs" about things. Recently, I was upset and I said to myself, "What should I do? I wish I had some sign." I was getting out of class, turned on the radio, heard a particular song right then and there. This was a couple weeks ago. Today, feeling frustrated again, I heard the same song. Then there's the strange reason why I've had a strange attachment to my shower curtain and these shoes I bought a couple weeks ago, in which I brought home and then realized they had a someone's name on them. It was freaky, but I hope there's something to it anyway.

Pretty good one. Too bad I can't remember his name.

Edit: I like the Fleetwood Mac one too. Stevie Nicks did good on that one.

8. Dylan's
Written for his wife when their marriage was enduring strain (eventually leading to divorce a few years later), and mentions by name the great song he wrote for her when he courted her - "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands".

15. Dylan's absolutely.
I laid on a dune, I looked at the sky,
When the children were babies and played on the beach.
You came up behind me, I saw you go by,
You were always so close and still within reach.

Sara, Sara,
Whatever made you want to change your mind?
Sara, Sara,
So easy to look at, so hard to define.

I can still see them playin' with their pails in the sand,
They run to the water their buckets to fill.
I can still see the shells fallin' out of their hands
As they follow each other back up the hill.

Sara, Sara,
Sweet virgin angel, sweet love of my life,
Sara, Sara,
Radiant jewel, mystical wife.

Sleepin' in the woods by a fire in the night,
Drinkin' white rum in a Portugal bar,
Them playin' leapfrog and hearin' about Snow White,
You in the marketplace in Savanna-la-Mar.

Sara, Sara,
It's all so clear, I could never forget,
Sara, Sara,
Lovin' you is the one thing I'll never regret.

I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells,
I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through,
Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel,
Writin' "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you.

Sara, Sara,
Wherever we travel we're never apart.
Sara, oh Sara,
Beautiful lady, so dear to my heart.

How did I meet you? I don't know.
A messenger sent me in a tropical storm.
You were there in the winter, moonlight on the snow
And on Lily Pond Lane when the weather was warm.

Sara, oh Sara,
Scorpio Sphinx in a calico dress,
Sara, Sara,
You must forgive me my unworthiness.

Now the beach is deserted except for some kelp
And a piece of an old ship that lies on the shore.
You always responded when I needed your help,
You gimme a map and a key to your door.

Sara, oh Sara,
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow,
Sara, oh Sara,
Don't ever leave me, don't ever go.

Sarah, Sarah, sittin' in a Chevrolet.
All day long she sits and shifts,
sits and shifts and shifts and sits.
Sarah...Sarah...sittin' in a Chevrolet.

Now sing it faster.

13. I didn't know there were so many songs about Sara!
That's cool having so many songs featuring your name. There are only 2 that I know of featuring my name, and they both suck.

I only know a few of those in the poll. I like the Fleetwood Mac song.

17. I would definitely have to choose the Fleetwood Mac song
Of course I would, LOL! I adopted a dog last fall that was found as a stray. They gave her a name at the shelter where she ended up, just for paperwork, probably. It was a great frustration that she would not answer to it, so I tried different names. When I tried "Sara," she ran across the room to me, jumped up into my lap and started licking my face! I knew I had found her name and now she comes when I call her. I was thinking of the Stevie Nicks song when I tried it...:-)

Sara

Wait a minute baby. . .
Stay with me awhile
Said you'd give me light
But you never told me about the fire

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

And he was just like a great dark wing
Within the wings of a storm
I think I had met my match--he was singing
And undoing the laces
Undoing the laces

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

Hold on
The night is coming and the starling
flew for days
I'd stay home at night all the time
I'd go anywhere, anywhere
Ask me and I'm there because I care

Sara, you're the poet in my heart
Never change, never stop
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter what for
When you build your house
I'll come by

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

All I ever wanted
Was to know that you were dreaming
(There's a heartbeat
And it never really died)

19. I wrote a Sara(h) song once
Just a cute li'l ol' love song. Not a drop of treacle in it -- pure syrup and honey and laughing gas.

An old friend of mine has a daughter named Sara, who just "become Of Age". I was thinking of blowing the dust off the cassette and encoding an MP3 version of it for her, just to see her squirm with mortified embarrassment.
