Downside to the Do Not Call list...
I thought the whole thing was kind of silly anyway. We signed up for the caller ID with telemarketing filters through the phone company, a couple of years ago, and the calls stopped imediately. But like anything else, the phone spammers developed tricks, such as plugging partial names into their outgoing ID's; if there is a name and phone number listed, the call blocking will generally let it ring and allow you to decide if it is your Dear Old Aunt Mable's attorney, or the vinyl siding company in your neighborhood doing the house down the street. Easy enough, too.

BUT... part of this new Do Not Call legislation requires all telemarketing companies to list a legitimate name and telephone number as a requirement for doing business. So now, EVERY goddamn call gets past the call filters. I can manually call every number back and say "don't call me."

Or, of course...I could take the opportunity to sign up for another government list. My choices seem pretty limited, now. Another law of unintended consequences....or is it?

Either way, I'm bummed.
