We just cancelled our ski trip planned with 20 other people. Oh well.
:( We were planning to rent three houses, but with the current storm and the snow levels dropped down to 1500 ft, the road conditions are too hazardous to make the trip...plus there's another storm due on Saturday. People don't want to take the risk and the ski conditions would be crappy, anyway, so that's the deal.

We were gonna pull the kids outa school early tomorrow, which they were particularly stoked about. They're still trying to convince us we should do it anyway...BIG surprise, there. :eyes:

Maybe we'll be able to reschedule, but I'm skeptical of our chances of finding another w/e that'll work for all of us.....

Oh well....things change.

1. If there is tons of snow why would ski conditions be bad?
Isn't it cold up there too?

5. Well, first off, it's a matter of getting up there safely....which at this point is questionable
given the storm action we're dealing with here.

and even if we could get up there safely, I personally don't like to ski when the snow is coming down hard and heavy. It makes for shitty visibility.

Yes, it's damn cold here today! There's snow at the summit of Hwy 17, they've closed Hwys 9 and 35. My hubby decided to tele-commute, rather than make the drive over. It's crazy out there and the rain is still comin' down hard and heavy.

Brrr!! :hi:

2. Sorry to hear that Shine....
:(

Perhaps you can arrange another weekend with some of the folks if you can't all make it. I'm sure the ShineKids would love that.

7. Frankly, I'm not THAT disappointed...although the kids are
it was only gonna be my third time skiing, so I'm not any big expert or anything. I'm still a major novice on skis. Give me a bike anytime! :D

:hi:  How's it goin' on your end, gf?

I am not an avid skier either, although I live in snow country. Give me a glass of wine in front of the fireplace anyday.:D

Things are going well on my end - I became an aunt yesterday :bounce:

16. Speaking from experience...
my sister and I got closer after I had my kids. Between the two of us, I was the first one to have kids and she has been an excellent Aunt, I must say. Seeing how she is with them has brought us closer, over the years. We've always had a rather challenging relationship, so it's been nice to have the kids bring us together, so to speak. Now that she's a relatively new mom, herself, it's been another chapter for us, too. It's been cool.

I hear what you mean about it being somebody else's kid. That's a good thing, I think. :D

3. As the former
official "Gatherer of Women", to have to cancel a trip can be very devastating in a personal kinda way. I am so sorry. I am sure you envisioned much fun had by all. Another time, no doubt

9. I like that, Gatherer of Women"...I'll have to use that one! :)
I didn't personally take on the management of planning this one, thankfully, but it is disappointing when it doesn't work out. However, some of the people that were going have generously offered up their house to gather at on Saturday night, when we were all going to have our big communal taco feast dinner together. So we'll do that, instead. Works out great for us since they only live two blocks away and they're also taking ShineGirl for a sleepover with their 11 yr old dtr. It all works out, in the end....

10. Can't you just ski down Highway 9 ?
I kid!

We are getting an awfully long stretch of chilly, wet weather here abouts. I'm about 1200 ft below the snow line but I can watch Mt. Diablo get whiter and whiter..

Bummer about the ski trip. Sounds like it would have been fun.

15. I'm NOT a big skiier, so I'm not exactly heartbroken.
Yes, I'm sure the mountains must look beautiful. MrShine absolutely HAS to make the drive over Hwy 17 tomorrow morning for a super-important meeting. He won't be able to tele-commute like he did today, unfortunately. I'm thinking I'll let him drive my car, instead, which has 4 WD.

It's supposed to be a doozy of a storm this w/e. I just checked weather.com and there's a flood watch, snow advisory, and wind advisory!! We're lookin' at getting upwards of 6+ inches of rain in the next 48 hrs!

20. We were at santa fe, it was about 15 degrees, zero wind. Near perfect.
Sorry. I've had to cancel trips before, sometimes based on weather predictions 3 or 4 days out. If you are on a tight schedule, cannot risk getting snowed in someplace. Better luck next time.

I'm officially in training again for several organized rides this season. First up: Solvang Century on March 8th. :woohoo:

How 'bout you?? Any big events coming up?

28. Oh no. I've had a blast doing all kinds....
The enchanted circle in new mexico, from red river to taos then angel fire back to red river, 106 miles with one 20 mile climb to 10,000 and a six mile climb to 11,000 beginning at mile 95 with a 4 mile screaming descent into red river. A lot of century training rides. Here is a pic of my wife on a climb on our coast to coast bike tour of the UK:

My last organized ride was a 50 miler 4 days before I had my left kidney removed because of cancer.

27. this is true!
I love group trips, though. Haven't been on one in a while. My mah-johng pals and I were talking about visiting one of our crew who moved to Florida - I like the idea of a chicks only trip. It's really fun to just sit around, and eat and drink and see new things.

My family used to rent beach houses every year, and we haven't since my parents don't like the long drive anymore. I miss the ocean.
