Goodbye Nana
My grandmother died this morning at around 5am. Thank you all for your kind words the other day. She lived a long and full life. 102 years old is amazing. And she kept her mind and wit the whole time. She lived for her family. She had three daughters; Joan (who died unexpectedly in 2003), Lee, and my mother Dianne. Six grandchildren (one deceased) and 13 great-grandchildren. She lived right next door to me as I grew up. She babysat us, walked us to school, and took care of us while we were sick. Her favorite cure for all that ails was a shot of peppermint schnapps and the best homemade chocolate chip cookies and schneckernoodles (a german pastry like a cinnamon raisin bun). We had family dinners every Monday night. Goulash and spaetzel (forgive my spelling), Sauerbraten, sauerkraut, blauerkraut, porkchops, the most wonderful German potato salad that I have tried so hard to replicate and just can't get right.

I lived with her for several years in my 20's before I moved to NY and got married. I hate/d being so far away from my close knit family. I miss them. My Nana was so funny and sweet. Everyone who met her fell in love with her and gushed about how adorable she was. I will miss her so much. Goodbye Nana.

I know I messed up on all the German spellings, but didn't feel like looking them all up. :) All I know, is that they were delicious!

14. It doesn't really matter
more important is that you lost a person you loved.

Keep her in memory. A person is still around as long as you remember her/him.

My deepest and sincerest thoughts, prayers, sympathies and condolences on the loss of your grandmother:hug:  Your tribute to her was profoundly moving -she sounds like she was a doting grandmother and a wonderful person who lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. You were fortunate to have had her as part of your life for so many years and that she lived to see you grow into adulthood and have children of your own.

I know that the legacy of her love, kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts and minds of those whose lives she touched and that she'll always be a part of you because of the impact that she had on your life.

My thoughts, prayers, sympathies and condolences are extended to you and your family once again:hug:

I find this poem to be immensely comforting to me and I hope it brings some comfort to you
HER JOURNEY

Don’t think of her as gone away,
her journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of her as resting
from the sorrow and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days and years.

Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched,
for nothing loved is ever lost,
and she was loved so much.

I always want to say "Congratulations on doing it right". All we can do is make the most of the time we have together and it sounds like you and your Nana sure did that. You should be proud.

116. may I offer my most heartfelt condolences
When my grandmother passed away in 1995 I received a card with these words on it.

At this time of sorrow
may these truths sustain you..
...your grandmother will always be
as close as a memory
and the God of all comfort
is always as close as a prayer.

Those who live in the hearts of others....
never die.

May our love and sympathy sustain you at this difficult time.

I mourn your loss in my very soul. Yes, we all get used to the idea that certain loved ones are going to move on, but it's a different world for us when they actually do.

You warmed my spirit (at a difficult time). Thank you for sharing your family with me.
