Severe thunderstorm warnings with rotation rolling in to Long Beach..
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 08:58 PM by puerco-bellies
It's raining buckets 10 miles north here in Manhattan Beach and the storm is headed north. This could get interesting.

1. rotation = hit the basement or other
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 09:03 PM by Jamastiene
low lying place. Stay safe. Rotation usually means tornado.

I'm not even there and just hearing the word rotation leaves me :scared:

3. I just let the kids know that we will huddle in front of the dryer if there is a tornado warning
The washroom is the only one without windows. No basement, and the crawlspace is hard to get too. Also there is zero chance to get the kids to go under the house..

13. I thought Manhattan was mentioned?

Sorry, I "jest" got confused.

In that case, with no basement being available, form into a fetal position, stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. :hi: :)

14. Oh, no problem!
Legitimate mistake...that's Manhattan Beach, which is part of Los Angeles. ;)

10. Stay away from Windows Like You Are
Bathtubs or interior rooms or closets are safer places than out in the open

I wouldn't recommend a crawl space particularly either, although it would seem logical, I've never heard that recommended.

I've talked to tornado survivors and often it is what you do at the last minute that makes the difference, make sure the kids are in the safest place, listen to your radio, listen to the storm, if something suddenly changes like it gets really quiet or gets really loud, be very alert to what might be happening.

I imagine you will be safe, a rotating thunderstorm just means it is a storm with the potential to produce tornadoes.

be well!

12. My dear Puerco-Bellies!
Yikes!

The rain's coming down pretty well here...

But I haven't seen/heard any large amount of wind!

Some lightning and thunder too, a little while ago...

This house is full of windows!

The only truly interior place is under the stairs...:scared:

16. The warning went out around 6ish
Every thing was pretty normal in a rainy day kind of way. I ended up going our to the garage to cut some turquoise cabochons.
