CONFESS!!! Who watched the Monkees TV show and which Monkee did you have a crush on?
Why did I have such a crush on Davy Jones? I mean, I was probably already 5 feet tall when I first watched "The Monkees" show in repeat back in 1st grade (but he did have great lips). But my friend Melissa and I would watch "The Monkees" after school each day (It was in repeat). I had a crush on Davy Jones and hers was on Michael Nesmith.

Anyone else a fan of the Monkees?

BTW, this thread is brought to you by Comcast On-Demand - featuring re-runs of "The Monkees" on-Demand. I watched the first 6 episodes this past weekend

(BTW - Peter Tork looks like he hasn't aged a bit)

4. Watching the repeats this past weekend if I had to choose again
I'd go with Peter Tork

I like his weirdness and stand-offishness. Plus he aged better than the other 3 Monkees

8. My addiction was quite evident even at 4 years old
The Monkees' reruns in syndication in 1970 was a primary competitor with The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch for my attention.

And I was sooooOOOooooo in love with Davy Jones. Every once in a while Peter would turn my head, but it was always a temporary distraction. Davy was my One True Love. And David Cassidy. Also my One True Love. Hee.

(My addiction was so bad--and so timeless--that when Davy Jones was starring in Godspell in London in '86, when I was there for a month taking a college theater course, that my friends and I dropped everything to go see a matinee showing. Hey, it counted--it was theater! And he had scores of screaming fans in the audience--still--and that was before the Monkees' reunion.)

Sigh. Davy. :loveya:

13. Do you have comcast On-Demand
under TV Entertainment they have something called Tube Time that has repeats of several classic sitcoms. I also watched several episodes of "One Day at a Time" and "Facts of Life"

but I did not have a crush on any of them. I loved them for their raw, rebellious symbolism.

17. I watched The Monkees
when they were on prime time on NBC. Monday evenings at 7:29 pm I was in front of the tv urging Huntley and Brinkley to get the heck over with the news stuff already. My favorite was Micky Dolenz. However, that was the result of negotiations with 3 other girlfriends. I had been in Spain when the commercials for the show started and my 3 best friends had already picked Davy, Mike and Peter, respectively, for their crushes. So, when I came home I was told that I could "have" Micky. I watched the first show, lusted after Davy, but resigned myself to Micky. However, as time went on, I realized that I actually liked him the best anyway. So, it was all good.

19. PETER TORK BABY!
Back in the 80s I attended a Presbyterian church. My bible study group decided we'd all get up early and pray at home. For me that lasted all of a week until I discovered Monkees re-runs were on at the same time. Hey, I love God but I got my priorities you know?

Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 12:43 PM by AZDemDist6
he was smart and goofy and had a great smile

years and years later, I did a back stage catering gig and met Davy Jones in person. He was a hoot and as funny in real life as he was on the show. he was still cute as hell and still had a great voice. that was in 1991 or 92 IIRC

edit cuz I can't type

23. No crushes, but...
No crushes, but I did love that show when I was a pup.

I'm also a fan of Nesmith's more recent stuff. Check out 'Rio' and 'Joanna'.

Here's an intereseting bit o' trivia...

A point came in which The Monkees wanted to get away from the pre-packaged stuff they were doing. They wanted to write, play and create their own album. The studio gave them a green light and they sequestered themselves for a few months and came up with the album 'Headquarters'. (Give it a listen if you're not familiar with it-- it's actually quite good)

Very un-Monkee-like stuff, avoiding the pop ballads and getting into the the experimental sounds. Well, they were proud of their creation and surprisingly, the album hit the number one spot. For a week, the music world was humming with this new style and new sound that had come from the most unlikely of sources.

A week later, Sergeant Pepper's came out and Headquarters was promptly relegated to the dustbin of musical history.

25. I had a huge crush on Davy and had
our wedding all planned. But, the one Monkee I got to "meet" was Peter. I was at a Buffalo Springfield Concert in LA and the band announced that Peter Tork was in the audience. I bolted from my seat (there were seats at concerts back then!) and ran around until I found him, standing against the dressing room door at the back of the room with his girlfriend. I stood worshipfully at his feet, but he just ignored me. Finally, his girlfriend asked me if I had a seat and I told her no.
I did not sleep that night.

27. Never had a crush on any of them
But I remember when they were on. I also had their records from Honeycomb, wish I still had those suckers. My mother has a letter from me to Santa asking for a bass guitar because Peter played one.

I have both season on DVD that came in two boxes that look like TVs. I still follow Nesmith's stuff and he has a pretty cool virtual Video Ranch that you can hang out at, I don't go there too often.

Robert Plant (just to be consistent)
