Went a saw Cloverfield yesterday... SPOILER ALERT!
So it's about this creature sent from God to destroy all of the over-privileged, kiss-ass making VP at the age of 25, run some corporation into the ground, my daddy is a better attorney than your daddy types living in Manhattan. You know, all of the "beautiful people". So God sends this "wretched beast" to Manhattan as a curse on all the Gap model wanna-bes, and shit gets really f*&^ked up! Oh, and the monster wins, and goes down to the Gulf coast to help rebuild New Orleans. Seriously though, if you go to see this, take Dramamine and some ear protection. This was the LOUDEST movie I've ever seen.

1. I posted about this in the Sci Fi forum.
I was not overly impressed. I got really tired of the camera work after the first 15 minutes. Shots of blurry asphalt and running feet just give me a head ache. The plot was thin as was the dialog...I will send the producers a bill for the script that I had to write in my head as I watched the movie.
Overall a brave attempt at experimental cinema. But personally I needed more meat on those bones, as it did not satisfy. The ending was the worst. It reminded me of that old underground short, "Godzilla vs. Bambi". Many people complained about the plot holes and unbelievability of the script. I just could not get into a movie that had so little coherence. It was the camera work in the end that left me with a bad taste in my mouth for "Cloverfield".

2. I have the same complaints but
it's quite possible they're setting this up for a series of sequels.

3. Yeah, I almost blew my Milk Duds a couple of times.
I got really tired of the camera guys dialog. "Rob!... Rob! Rob! Rob!... Rob! What the hell was that? RAAAHHHB! RAAAAHHHHB!" I will admit that the movie scared this crap out of me a couple of times. I though it was an interesting concept, and was really loud. Was it super loud in the theater where you saw it? I mean every explosion hit me in the chest like I was there with them.

4. Yes the dialog was boring
And may have been very loud, but I am partially deaf. And yes, it would be a brilliant move to do a series of "actual" movies based on this original "found" footage.

31. Yeah, that's the one.
The inflatable sacs on the side face are the give away that this cartoon's the monster from the movie. You never get such a close look at it though.

7. ty!
I will take earplugs then, I always forget them when I need them.
We're going to see it this afternoon! I hate shaky camera work but I really love monsters, and maybe the destruction will be worth it :headbang:

8. I downloaded the in theatre shaky cam version of the shaky cam movie
so it was a double-shaky cam movie. I skipped right to the first sign of trouble, and even skipped a few points beyond that.

*big spoilers*

I wish they'd have explained how exactly the bitten girl seemed to have 'blown up', but I suppose it worked both ways. Did they nuke the monster, or did it just smash the bridge they were hiding underneath?

12. Light on the plot...
Hard to answer these questions. In retrospect I do not think they used nukes. Or else, how would the digital camera have survived.

14. You had to be quick to see that another "bite victim"
was being carried on a strecher with his abdomen blow out. But, yeah, I wish they would have filled in that little grizzly detail.

16. Just shell out the cash to see it on the big screen.
It was a frustrating experience for me. But, it's probably more coherent than watching it on DVD on a small screen.

19. yes you can cheer for the monster in this one
as it devours all the shallow pretentious loft dwelling NY neo-yuppies. It's a class war and the monster wins :)

29. !! I think...
(I missed this thread yesterday  )

I LOVED it, but I'm really into horror movies and disasters. The GIANT monster and the freaked out crowds running away from it was all I needed, I give it a 8.5 out of 10 :headbang:
I couldn't tell what happened in the end but I hope the monster survived. (I read somewhere yesterday that there might be more than one of them?)

My husband didn't like it as much, because the camera moving made him sick, he was one of those cases lol

But Jeebus! That movie scared me more than once! It had a great "psychological" factor to it.

25. Yes, the characters were annoying as f***, I couldn't wait until they got killed.
Especially the clown with the camera!!!

I kept wondering how a dipshit like Rob was capable of being employed in general let alone getting a primo vice-president's position in Japan. :wtf:

Other than the obnoxious characters, I liked the movie - short & sweet.

The monster was cool too - great CGI throughout.

24. one really great thing about Cloverfield
Runtime: 85 minutes. That's EIGHTY FIVE minutes! You get your roller coaster thrills and you leave. that's it. No absurdly long back story to sleep through like Peter Jackson's King Kong remake.
