Gomer Pyle was in the Marines from 1964-1969...
Yet he never got sent to Vietnam.

Did Gomer have friends in high places?

5. My bet would have been
that he either fragged himself the first day
or came home with a medal of honor.

6. Not only was he not sent, Vietnam was never mentioned in any context.
In the world of late-60s TV-land, the Vietnam conflict did not exist.

7. IIRC- the producers wanted to bring Vietman into the equation somehow,
but representatives from the Marine Corps pleaded with them NOT to do so.
