Those people are nuts.

I don't know what else to say, except "br-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!"

1. I hate to tell them but... I think they're the ones who are gonna burn
their judgmental, pompous, twisted beliefs will turn God against them.

I don't think God is nearly as uptight as they are.

8. does anyone confront them with that?
Sorry, as a Christian, my tolerance of such folk is zero (atheists can at least watch an be amused... albeit scared). Does anyone actually say "you're pretty fucking judgmental, do you really think Christ was that way?" to them?

9. I asked a coworker of mine once...
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 10:40 PM by nini
if God told her to take his place and judge us here on earth when she told me because I wasn't born again I wasn't going to heaven. (I am Catholic which of course makes me the anti-Christ in their eyes)

She had told me that she felt so bad for victims of some earthquake years ago that those people weren't going to heaven because they weren't Christians. I asked her to answer 2 things for me:

1. Does she not believe that Christ loved all men and if she did why would he not welcome those who did not know him into heaven.

and may favorite:
2. What about all those people that died before Christ was born - God would turn them away because of when they lived on this earth? :-) that one pissed her off. hahah

17. Limbo
The medieval theologians invented Limbo as a place where righteous pagans could go so they wouldn't have to imagine them in Hell. As I understand it, Limbo was just outside the gates of Heaven, not quite in sight of God, but at least within hollering distance.

I've never heard of the fundies being into Limbo, though. I think they'd rather imagine everyone who isn't them writhing in an eternity of torment.

at least with the ones I know. You're either saved or too bad for you. No gray areas for them

While the world suffers....those "annointed cowards" will fold like a cheap suit.

I'd rather stay behind and try to solve the world of it's problems...not run like cowards to a paradise.

Ha!

What cracked me up was the theological debate about whether artificial limbs and dental fillings go to heaven or not...

23. That got me too
When the rapture hits do you take your contact lenses and gold teeth with you? All I can do is shake my head. Where did tolerance go?

But why would Christianity be any different than any other religion? There are Muslim fundamentalists, and Jewish, and Catholic, ad infinitum. None of whom are tolerant of any one else's beliefs. Sad, sad, sad.

Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 10:49 PM by Edge
Those books are the best group of books I've ever read. Yes, the authors of those books seem like RW fundies, but hey, the books are a good read nonetheless.

I actually pictured the end of the world as they portrayed it...

15. Tour their message board...a real eye-opener.
http://forums.prospero.com/lb-prophecyclub

The stuff on Howard Dean (and his party affiliation) at the bottom of the page is heartfelt but not very complimentary (suprise!).

This quote is from the Presidential Prayer Team thread:

>>The bible commands us to pray for our leaders and even though I don't personally agree with President Bush or his policies, he is our leader, we are in a time of war and President Bush needs all the help he can get.<<

The sin is that these folks will continue to vote for *. Kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

A family member is really into them, and I was curious. I couldn't get past the first three chapters. The writing is utter crap.

19. The writing is worse than crap.
I made a deal with my freeper mother that I would read all the books (I don't buy them, though, and I don't let her buy them -- I go to the bookstore on the day the new one comes out, sit and read it, then put it back on the shelf). Despite my church attendance, obvious love for Jesus and knowledge of scripture, my freeper mother isn't sure I'm saved, because of my politics. She thinks the books will help. LOL.

The books are so badly written that it's an exercise in torture to read them. The Tribulation Force (a group of people who come to Christ immediately after the Rapture and decide to fight the Anti-Christ) make contact with other tribulation saints (if you get saved after the Rapture, you're not a Christian, but rather, a "tribulation saint") via the internet. Naturally, the GC (Global Community, the one-world gov't set up by the AC) tries to shut them down. They can't. The only explanation for this is that the Trib Force has an "untraceable connection." They use "safe" cell phones that are "untraceable" by any known means, despite the fact that the AC has the entire planet's remaining cadre of tech geeks at his disposal. If the books said, "God didn't allow the GC to trace their connection," the books would be better. Rather, it's this unexplained "untraceable" bullshit.

I could go on and on and on. The books are horrifyingly bad. The most recent one made me vomit. Chloe, the only significant female character, gets captured (when she stupidly leaves her baby at home and goes out to fight with the men :puke: :puke: :puke:) and after LESS THAN A DAY without eating, she takes food from the GC that she knows is poisoned because she was so weak from hunger.

LESS THAN A DAY. The poor pitiful woman was so weak and helpless, you see, that she would willingly accept poison after LESS THAN A DAY without eating, because she just wasn't strong enough to take it, waa waa waa.

The books are homophobic, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, badly written, trite, disgusting, overplotted, unsophisticated CRAP.

Not to put too fine a point on it.

Before someone freaks out and says "How can you be a Christian if you don't believe that stuff?" It's simple. I look at the Bible contextually.

The book of Revelation, where the Left Behind storyline comes from (for the most part), was written by the Apostle John while he was in exile, alone, for years and years with only the voices in his head for company, on the Isle of Patmos, snacking on the local mushrooms.

Give me a fucking break.

21. My two cents.
You pretty much said it all. (I only read the first book, though. I couldn't stomach it.)

I wanted to add that their is such a misunderstanding of the nonbelievers in those books. I personally feel that if ALL (every single one!) of the children and Christians of the world went *poof*, hardly anyone (in North America and Europe at least) would doubt the Scriptures. It's insane to think that the plot of that book would ever come to pass. (The movies are even more of a shit storm.)

Why didn't the pilot just crash his plane into the Atlantic Ocean when he knew without a doubt that the Antichrist was on his plane? Doesn't that make him an accessory? stupid, stupid book...

28. Rapure letters:
http://www.raptureletters.com/index.html

After the rapture, there will be a lot of speculation as to why millions of people have
just disappeared. Unfortunately, after the rapture, only non believers will be left to come up with answers. You probably have family and friends that you have witnessed to and they just won't listen. After the rapture they probably will, but who will tell them?

We have written a computer program to do just that. It will send an Electronic Message (e-mail) to whomever you want after the rapture has taken place, and you and I have been taken to heaven.

<snip>

There is something deeply disturbing about a group of people who are not content to simply bother you in this lifetime, but also want to annoy you when they are in the afterlife
