2. I'm really really really hoping this movie...
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 12:18 AM by Kutjara
...isn't half as bad as I fear it's going to be. I'm a big Trek fan, but I'm worried that all this retcon stuff will be the final nail in the coffin.

Cool pic, though! :hi:

4. I don't think so.
It looks like the Enterprise is being constructed on Earth, not in orbit.

6. Looked it up, and it was built at San Francisco
Which makes sense, with the fog and all.

Seeing any shipyard would be cool.

9. Slightly wrong.
Looked it up myself in my Star Trek Encyclopedia by Michael and Denise Okuda, and and it says was built and launched from the yards ORBITING, above San Francisco.

10. That makes sense, because...
...Constitution-class starships aren't capable of intra-atmospheric flight.

12. Only the saucer!
Although, in the original episode 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' the Enterprise is climbing through the clouds to get out of Earth's atmosphere.

14. Did Constitution-class saucers separate?
I thought that was a Galaxy-class innovation.

I forgot about the "Tomorrow is Yesterday" scene. Hmmm. Now I'm confused.

17. If I remember right, the saucer can separate, in an emergency...
from the engineering hull, through a series of explosives being detonated. They cannot be reattached again though.

18. The tech manuals say it was made to seperate once in an emergency...
and the saucer would serve as a 'life boat'. It could not re connect on its own. In the refitted version in the movies, you can see the seperation line near the top of the dorsal. It was supposed to happen in Star Trek the Motion Picture, but the scene was scrapped.

"A saucer separation involving the refit Constitution-class USS Enterprise was storyboarded by Andrew Probert for a possible scene at the end of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Features such as a separation line were intentionally designed into the filming model by Probert, and are good indications that the ship can separate just like its earlier form."

28. Well, the Enterprise was still pretty high up in that one...
Within the flight envelope of what I believe was an F-104 Starfighter, which is about 50,000 feet, or over nine miles. The air is pretty thin up that high.

Although, frankly, IMO the Enterprise should have been able to land on a planet. Her impulse engines were able to make far more than one gravity's worth of thrust. She could have simply matched speed with the surface of a planet and used impulse power to hover over a planet, then lowered herself down like an elevator.

All that fiery re-entry stuff comes from the fact that our spacecraft can't carry enough fuel to do that, so we use air friction instead. But the Enterprise has plenty of antimatter on board, solving that problem.

7. I thought it was built at the ship yards over San Fran
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 12:44 AM by Cannikin
I thought that was the lore anyway.

On edit:

I'm told that pic is from the final frame of the teaser that is coming out with Cloverfield.

that a Justice League live action movie is somewhat in the works, and that Man of Steel(Superman returns II), looks like its on hold....

As a Superman fan...I'm pissed....I can't believe that just because SR somewhat underperformed, that WB is thinking of holding Old blue back....

16. I keep tabs at imdb.com
and capedwonder.com....I personally think a live action Justice League movie is...bad, really bad...so bad, I think I might puke....

The projected cast(as of now) seems pretty...bad...

I think its a waste, to waste Routh, and Superman Returns, and pretend it never happend...many at imdb think a reboot is in order, but I think...that Superman The Movie, is perhaps the best...creation story of any comic book character, I think it beats Batman Begins(its hard to admit this)...I think a reboot is a major waste of time.

21. I agree on the Superman movies, but I've personally been impressed with Nolan's Batman
He seems to be drawing from my favorite Batman graphic novels, year one, and long halloween.

22. agreed, Batman Begins
and from what I've seen of The Dark Knight...those flicks are going to be placed on a mantle(and stay there for a LONG time)....

I'm a Superman/Batman fan...and the recent Batman movies have been great(Begins had me in stitches for months), and TDK looks like it will be on par.....
