logic puzzle!!!
we got some smart folks here and this is cross posted from another forum.

have at it. (and please keep the answer secret for people still working on it. if you have it just say "got it" or something like that)

On Diplomat Row in Washington D.C., there are five houses. Each owner is a different nationality, each has a different pet, each has a different favorite food, a different favorite drink, and each house is painted a different color.

The green house is directly to the right of the ivory house.
The Senegalese has the red house.
The dog belongs to the Spaniard.
The Afghani drinks tea.
The person who eats cheese lives next door to the fox.
The Japanese eats fish.
Milk is drunk in the middle house.
Apples are eaten in the house next to the horse.
Ale is drank in the green house.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The peach eater drinks whiskey.
Apples are eaten in the yellow house.
The banana eater owns a snail.
The Norwegian lives next door to the blue house.

For each house find
the color.
the nationality of the occupant.
the owner's favorite food.
the owner's favorite drink.
the owner's pet.
Finally, the crucial question: Does the zebra's owner drink vodka or ale?

ps i dont have the answer, im working on it myself. when i do get it (either from myself or the original poster, i will let folk know.)

1. I did that one for ex cred in Math class
Only i think it was under different names, but the spirit is the same. It was written by Albert Einstein, who said that only 2% of the pop. would be able to figure it out.

I'm part of the 2%. Are you?

5. forget it, it's illogical
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 07:13 PM by camero
Milk is drunk in the middle house. There are 4 houses. Only one house can be the middle house not 2. If it said houses it would be different.

Edit: doh, there's five. Answered too soon. :dunce:

6. yes..
and the Norwegian lives in the "first house".. whatever that means.

It's a logic puzzle, not too well constructed... used to have to do these all the time in elementary school. At least now I know who to blame. Damn you Einstein!

15. Easy!
I had to do a bunch of these for the LSAT. They are very easy, if you organize them correctly.

I'll check back and share my answers, when whatever time limit is up.

10. i like those too. im very very good at them.
i always tested well for pattern finding and such. in highschool my friend gave me a NIN shirt that had all these numbers on them. i looked at for a few seconds, got out some paper and figured it out it about 5 minutes. it was a simple alphabet 1=a 2=b code. i cant remember what it was. it was a lyric to perfect drug.

9. Alright, I got it.
had to make an assumption that "first house" meant first house on the left.

Now I have a headache.

12. Ok. That took ten minutes. Far too long!
I used to do these things in like, under one minute when I was studying for GREs/LSATs. Yeeeesh. Would have helped if I read the "crucial question" before starting!

I'll PM the answer to curious folks, if it ain't already posted here (I didn't look).
