I just signed up my daughter for a babysitter's training class thru the local Red Cross
Here's the class description:

A 6 1/2 hour course specifically designed for 11-15 year olds. Students learn how to interview for babysitting jobs, make responsible decisions, and supervise children. Infant and child manikins are used to practice lifesaving and basic care skills. Kids participate in games, group activities, and role-playing for a fun and interactive learning experience. Included is the class book, first aid kit and a breathing barrier. Students receive a non-expiring certificate upon completion of the class.

 It only costs $50, but what a cool thing! They even get an official-looking certificate, afterwards. I never had anything like this available when I started babysitting for money as a kid.

They limit the class to only 10 kids and we just got the last open slot. Two of her best friends, who are also 11 yrs old, will be in the class too, so it'll be fun for them....even if it does mean they'll be in competition with each other later for the neighborhood gigs. We're all neighbors. :D

Oh well, they'll work it out, I'm sure. Let's get them earning some money! :bounce:

1. I went to a babysitting class when I was about that age.
The class was free and held in a neighborhood center. It was probably an early version of the Red Cross course since we were just down the hill from the Red Cross office. I went with my best friend and it was a blast.

3. I'd been babysitting for my younger sibs and the next door neighbors.
My mother said she'd give me permission to babysit for others in the nbhd if I did the course. With my certification in hand I commanded 50 cents an hour -- made my first million by the time I was twelve.

Okay, that last part was a fib.:D

5. Did you find the certificate made you more "credible" with your clients?
:D
