Family continues road trip to Oregon with dead Grandma in RV
http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_011408_news_grandmother_roadtrip.1fd45426.html

A bizarre investigation is underway in Hillsboro, after police said they were contacted by a family whose grandmother died during a recent road trip, yet they decided to keep driving with the body in thier RV until they reached Oregon.

Their trip began in California and they first headed to Arkansas. It was meant to be a special trip for the 79-year-old woman to see loved ones before she died. She was suffering from renal failure but was expected to live long enough to complete the trip.

After Arkansas, the family began driving the RV toward Oregon but their grandmother died in Wyoming.

However when she died, the family decided to keep driving and transported the body more than 1,000 more miles, until they reached Hillsboro.

3. Call me crazy but I don't find this really shocking.
I can think of a number of reasons why the family might have rationalized that finishing the trip was a good idea. We mightn't all do the same but... I might.

5. I can too, even though I wouldn't do it either.
For one thing, maybe they figured they could have her buried in Oregon near relatives and paying to have her body shipped there was beyond their means.

9. Did they expect to bury her in Oregon?
If so, they made a rational decision. I don't think I would have made the same decision but their decision is understandable

10. My only question is...
if she had renal failure, why the (*&% was she taking a road trip instead of getting dialysis?

13. From a family friend....
I know this family personally and there is much more to the story that originally posted on here. So, to fill in the gaps missing: the woman who passed away during this trip was actually with her husband, step-daughter, and step-son-in-law. Yes, she had renal failure, lucky for her, her step-daughter is a nurse! The step-daughter was able to do the dialysis during the trip, they stopped every several hours of traveling at RV camps with electricity to be able to do the things they needed to do for her. She passed away peacefully in her husband's arms while sleeping. The family contacted her doctor and he said to finish the trip! (Which was stated in the WHOLE article which was NOT posted here.) The police in Hillsboro checked into any laws pertaining such situations, to some it may be strange yes, but no laws were broken, and there was no foul play found in the police investigation. Indeed they were carrying out this woman's final wishes, and I think we need to now step back and allow them to grieve their loss!

16. No doubt if they reported this to the authorities, 2 weeks, 50 pages of paperwork,
and $10,000 in legal fees would have been required to get Grandma back to Oregon. Good on 'em for keeping on.
