3. it is better experienced than explained
I know I experience it every day of my life with depth and passion. But I can't put it down in a paragraph. Poets only approximate it, and music only echoes it. But there is no articulating it.

and God also cannot be described.

 ???????????

(You would think at nearly twice your age, I'd have figured this out by now, but when I thought I have, I end up kicked in the teeth. Or perhaps, I did figure it out and it remains mysteriously elusive.) Anyway, I'm sure you'll end up much better than me in this regard.

7. For more years than I care to remember, people kept telling me...

"Someday, you're going to meet a woman who'll knock you off your feet. And you'll know she's the one for you."

Being young and impatient, I always wanted to know *how* I'd know she was The One. But all I ever got for an answer was, "Trust me, you'll just know."

And it's only now, with my 38th birthday just six weeks away, that I finally understand what they meant. I was fully convinced that I'd be spending the rest of my life alone and unloved, but now it doesn't have to be that way!

If it can happen for me, it can happen for you, too. But you can't rush these things. Believe me, I tried and it never worked!

8. Shakespeare Was Bi-Polar
Men have died and worm's have eaten them...but not for love.

Or...

As plays the sun upon a glassy stream
Twinkling yet another counterfit beam
So seems this beauty to mine eyes.
Confounds the tougue, and makes the senses rough....

Or something to that effect.

24. Not bipolar, just bitter, maybe?
See for instance some of the stuff in the sonnets...

"That I have sworn thee fair, and thought thee bright
Who art black as hell, and dark as night..."

(Sonnet #147, my favourite. Reminds me of an ex-girlfriend or two, so I know where he's coming from with this one.)

9. Love is...

when you can't stand not to be with your best friend. When you see something
and that person just pops into your mind. It is when your (in my case)best
girl bud says something about that special someone and you are ready
to throw them out a window.

That is my two cents worth!

12. It's a word. The component parts are...
...companionship, affection and good (whatever that means to you) sex.
This is what I've decided it is. We just use the word love as a convenience. An umbrella term for these three things.

13. One of the very best bands of the 60s
Their third album, Forever Changes, is often chosen by
cognoscenti as among the best rock albums ever released.
In fact, a number of rock critics name it as THE best.

18. I define it by the people I'm lucky enough to have in my life
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 11:19 AM by Bertha Venation
because it's a miracle, and skill & desire have nothing to do w/ how or when it comes to us.

on edit: loving oneself (not self-love, you silly wags) is different somehow, and far harder to attain. I wish I could explain how I got there, to give others who need that type of love some hope. I always feel pathetically ignorant and stupid when I'm about to tell someone "but you're worthy!" or some other platitude, so I hold back. The only way I can try to convince someone who doesn't care for him/herself that s/he is worthy of loving self is to spend time with 'em -- show my love for them... I know I'm rambling.

19. Don't worry, Mags, you'll find whatcha want.
May not be as soon as you want it, may not be with the person you want now; but you'll get there.

Face it: you're a music lover with an artistic bent, who is very pretty, and is a flaming leftist.

You think people like that stay single forever? Uh-uh, sister. You've got a lifetime of breaking men's pathetic little hearts ahead of you. Just don't be TOO cruel to the weaker sex, okay? ;)

25. A commercial enterprise.
Nothing says love like a diamond/chocolate/flowers/card/car/perfume/fancy dinner/cloths/cruise trips/vacations/disneyworld/disneyland/TVs/DVDs/ect...ect..ect...

Or it's a physiological reaction to protect one's seed for survival.

Or something that is confusing and I have given up on.

30. A close, benign, & emotional connection to a person
When I talk about celeb crushes, that's not love because you don't know the person. But it's fun thinking it could be love if the chance was given. :-) BTW, Michelle Trachtenberg is 18 now has grown up nicely! I'll put her on my celeb crush list in place of Mindy Smith.

When you just like someone physically, that's not love. It's attraction. When you like someone physically and emotionally, the sexual side relates to the connection described.

Family members have a form of love, even though there's no attraction. Lifelong friends also do.
