3. Oh boy
I'm one of those people who rarely get sick and when I do it's usually just a mild cold that goes away in 2 maybe 3 days, and never really knocks me out.

Over the last 3 weeks I've had a cold slowly come on, starting as a slight soar throat, to full blown full mucus producing cold, then it seemed like it was clearing up but then it morphed into something of a sinus torture virus that is just wiping me out.

Then someone on this board recommended Mucinex. That stuff actually seemed to work.

Might have been coincidence, but it's certainly worth a try.

Mine started Sunday. I can't sleep for choking and wiping my nose. Last night I had to sleep with my mouth open all night which resulted in a nasty case of "dry tongue". Yuck! Today my head feels like it's going to explode. But other than that, I'm fine, thank you very much!

17. yeah, me too
I have seen intermittently sick since the beginning of December. Short of breath, sinus mildly infected as was my actual nose, chills, intermittent feverishness. I have made several docs appts and then canceled them because I wasn't sick enough. I didn't want to drag myself in only to be told that "it sounds like you've got a virus" (and everybody else in the office will have it soon enough). Fluid in my ear too.

24. wow. maybe I'm not a malingerer
I have a day occasionally where I feel human for most of it & I think, thank God that is over, but before the end of the day I'm likely to relapse. Do you get burning post-nasal discharge? It's not constant but when it happens it makes my tongue and my gums sore for a while.

Y'know I did hear on the radio this fall that there was a severe cold virus circulating that had actually killed some people. Didn't hear much of the story though. Though I doubt that they had any good advice to offer that we don't know already.

I had it last year. It's starting to come back right now though. I've been sneezing every three seconds, and not just dainty girly sneezes, but head rattling, dizzifying, gross sneezes. I've gone through a box of puffs plus in two days. I feel ya.
Hope you feel better soon.

My Typhoid nephew infected all the adults in the family on the 23rd who, like me, are slowly getting better. He however just sniffled for a couple days. We're just like you, seem to improve then get worse. I was worse today and the cough came back. Bah.

31. can you see a doctor?
Feeling worse after such a long time is not a good sign. Remember, there's a risk of pneumonia and that's a very bad turn of events.

In the meantime, do what you can to boost your immune system. Airborne, a fizzy tablet full of goodies like echinacea and such, is something many people swear by. You can get it at your local place where you get cough drops and OTC cold remedies.

39. Have you been to a doc?
This is one of the risks of my job...over the years I've known LOTS of people who thought they just had a chest cold or achy joints or whatever, and went to the doc to find out it was something serious that they had let go for too long. Really, I could tell ya horror stories. But I won't. Suffice to say, a cold over a month old is worthy of a trip to a doctor.

67. ok, this summer was the worst cold ever
I was in the city of Ostrava, Czech Republic in august for a three week long festival/conference thing. About halfway through I got the cold from hell. My lungs ached and I was coughing up bad bad shit - the kind of coughs that people hear and think you may be dying. The way it resonated in the hotel room where I was staying was the worst - it hurt my ears. It was pretty well gone after a week or two, but didn't really go away until the end of September. I get sick a lot when I travel... foreign germs. The last time before that when I was in the Czech Republic, I also became incredibly ill right as I was coming back home. That cold lasted long enough to make me quit smoking - it hurt so bad to smoke that I couldn't, and by the time the cold was gone, I'd kicked the habit. Of course I started again a few months later, because smoking is just totally freakin' awesome.

ain't it something? I don't know when I have had a cold/flu thing last this long. Thought I had it beat last week as I steamed my sinuses and dutifully swallowed B, C and Zinc tabs. This week I had fevers off and on and slept for 12 hours/day. Colds didn't use to last this long, right? Its one heck of a virus.

66. Have you seen a doctor?
Two years ago I had the flu for the first time in years. I finally went to the doctor and was given medication, but it took me two more doctor's visits and a really strong medication to finally help me get over it. I can't tell you how horrible I felt, didn't even want to get out of bed to drag myself to the doctor and I usually manage to tough these things out. On my last visit, the PA told me that it was really fortunate that I came in because I was in pretty rough shape, and this was my third appointment for the same damn thing!:-(

You can't be too careful, so I'd get it checked out. These things aren't any fun and nothing to take for granted. And I don't think you're whining...:hi:

I had the laryngitis for 2 months and then had to have some tests. I got an inhaler for the vocal chords but my voice still crackles.

I need a biopsy but don't have insurance for it.

72. I have two very good friends that have had it for weeks.
It may not be the same rhino virus that you have, but what you've described sounds very familiar.
I started with something last Thursday night. It was a lot of sneezing and a non stop drip. I went to my senior class on Friday morning and one of my students gave me one of them Airborn cocktails. Three to four hours later -- no more cold. It was gone. Colds, for me, are always a long drawn out hacking, sneezing, wheezing thing that almost always ends up bronchitis. This was the easiest cold I have ever had. I'm getting me some of that Airborn.

Feel better, friend!!!!

73. I do.
:( Got sick in mid-December, and it took me two weeks to feel better and stop being congested. I felt fine until a week ago, when I woke up last Sunday with a damn sore throat AGAIN. x( I almost lost my voice on Monday, and Tuesday it was still cracking. I've had congestion again for a week now. The first round, I had nasal congestion and no chest congestion. This time, I have chest congestion and a hacking cough but no nasal congestion.

I hope you feel better soon, SPK. I hope everyone else with this shit feels better soon too.
