Dog retrieves his best friend - a dead cat buried in the garden
A pet dog missed the family’s dead cat so much that he dug up his grave and brought the body back into the house.

When Oscar’s owners woke up the next morning they discovered the dog curled up beside Arthur, the late cat, in his basket.

His owners, Robert Bell, 73, and his wife, Mavis, of Wigan, Greater Manchester, believe that the dog had licked the cat clean before falling asleep.

Mr Bell said that the two pets were constant companions. Arthur, who was a large cat, used to help Oscar to climb on to the sofa.

Oscar, an 18-month-old Lancashire Heeler, had watched Mr Bell dig a grave in the garden and then lower the cat into the hole.Mr Bell said: “He had managed to climb out through the cat flap in the night, obviously with the intent to get Arthur back. Bearing in mind that Arthur was a huge cat, Oscar must have used all the strength he could muster.

3. Awwww....
They say that you should show a pet the body of a deceased companion, so it understands that the pet is gone. Poor little guy. I'm glad they got him a kitten.

4. I love dogs
I love cats too, but I realllllly love dogs.

I also like how those two helped each other when both were alive.

7. OMG I am weeping right now
My Siamese cat is really, really sick right now. She is at the vets. We don't know if she is going to make it. Here is a pic of the dog and his very, very best friend.

10. Hang in there. You have done all you can.
That's all you can do. I lost Portia in 1999 from cancer; greatest dog ever. I did all I could. I miss her, but it didn't hurt like when I lost her successor, Sasha, at two, in 2001 when she got hit by a car. I was destroyed, and still can't think of it without extreme pain.

We love our animals knowing that we will eventually lose them, no matter what we do. But it's a comfort to know you did what you could. If the news is the worst, I suspect that will be a comfort to you.

For now, all the best for a speedy recovery.

8. Awww... poor sad puppy. Hard on the owners to wake up to that, though.

11. the end of the article--it's heartbreaking
“Then he pulled him into the basket and went to sleep next to him. Arthur’s coat was gleaming white. Oscar had obviously licked him clean. It must have taken him nearly all night.”

"Arthur is now reburied in a secure grave. And Oscar has a new playmate, a kitten called Limpet

i could have cried when i read this. talk about the true meaning of puppy love
