Oregon woman arrested for DUI has BAC of .72
How this woman lived, I do not know. I hope this is the wake up call she needs.

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0110084dui1.html

JANUARY 10--In what may be the most extreme drunk driving case ever, an Oregon woman was arrested last month with a .72 blood alcohol level--nine times the state's legal limit. Terri Comer, 42, was arrested after she was discovered unconscious in her car, which sheriff's deputies found running and in a snow bank on a highway in Klamath County at 11:30 AM on December 28. After breaking a car window, rescuers removed the comatose Comer from her Toyota and transported her to a local hospital, where a blood draw revealed the .72 BAC. She was reportedly hospitalized for a day before being released. As seen in a police photo, Comer's vehicle came to a stop about 50 feet in front of one of those portable traffic signs reminding motorists not to drink and drive (a close-up of the sign can be seen here). Comer is pictured below in a 2006 mug shot snapped after a prior drunk driving arrest. In that case, her BAC was recorded in the relatively minor .3 range. In November, another Oregon woman, Meagan Harper, was nabbed for drunk driving with an extreme BAC. In her case, Harper's BAC was measured at .55. Comer's .72 edges out what TSG has previously identified as the highest BAC we've ever seen. That fallen record (.69) was held by Willard Ashley III, an Indiana man who was busted in October 2003. 1. It just goes to show...
...that, regardless of educational or economic background, it's still possible to achieve great things in life if your really put your mind to it.

Congratulations to a worthy champion!

Now lock her up.

3. I actually read about it in The Oregonian.
She was passed out in the drivers' seat on SE 82nd street. I believe she was in a parking lot across from Clackamas Town Center.
Anyone who knows Portland, knows the reputation of SE 82nd street.

But anyway, .72 is INCREDIBLE. She's alive, that's the incredible part.
.72 should be lethal. She must have a HUGE tolerance for alcohol.

Westside of Portland is boring. People on the westside of Portland are people who are older and/or who are settling down.
Inner NE and inner SE is where it's at. :hi:

I'm only saying all this because I am curious about what you think. West Portland is too hard to criticise.

5. About 15 years ago...
...a company in the UK decided to install breathalyzer machines in pubs, so that patrons could test their BAC and avoid driving drunk if they were over the limit. That little scheme lasted about a month before the government banned the machines when it was discovered that people were using the machines to see who could get their BAC the highest.

Inevitable, really. People can be so stupid.

My record was .53. Ahem.

The next day? Like the wrath of God. I think I had a five day hangover.

As quantessd pointed out in post #23, however, I couldn't possibly have had a genuine BAC of .53 or I'd probably be posting this from the other side of the Pearly Gates. I assume that the fact we tested ourselves so soon after drinking each drink resulted in residual alcohol in our mouths skewing the results. Either that, or the machines were calibrated high to scare the crap out of everyone.

23. The breathalyzer was rigged.

28. It must have been. I remember being...
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 08:58 AM by Kutjara
...quite impressed with myself that I'd got it up so high and was still coherent. As you say, it's very unlikely anyone with that BAC would be conscious, never mind lucid.

I remember we were downing shots and then immediately running to the machine to test ourselves, so a lot of the reading was probably from alcohol evaporating from our mouths rather than in our bloodstreams.

Tests indicated a blood alcohol content of the 40-kilogram animal of 1,6 milligrams per 100 millilitres.

14. I have a friend whose 12 year old son was killed by
a drunk driver (instantly), buried on the day before Thanksgiving. Her husband was driving the car at the time. He was in ICU for a month before he died...was buried on Christmas Eve.

I participated in both funerals.

I have NO tolerance for drinking and driving. If you drink...stay the hell away from behind the wheel of a car, boat, etc.

And, IMO, if you are given a DUI, you should lose your license for a specified time, and should have to, when you got to drive again, have a special license plate---maybe blaze orange or hot pink---with the license plate number DUI-xxxx (x being numbers and letters). One then should have to remain DUI free for 10 years before being able to rid ones' self of that tag.

And, if caught driving a vehicle without that tag, or found guilt of DUI a second time...Strike 2 is OUT. Automatic jail time, and never having the privilege of driving again.

And, if someone is hurt in an accident you cause while DUI...you go to jail for 10 years. If someone is killed...life with no parole.

I don't mind someone drunk flat on their ass. Get behind the wheel of a vehicle, though, and your problem becomes mine.

22. I've seen bright yellow tags here in Ohio
but I can't remember if they are for DUI offenders or sex offenders. I think it's DUI offenders and if I recall correctly they can be pulled over at any time and be forced to take a sobriety test.

27. I ran some numbers using an online BAC calculator...
...and it looks like she'd need to down about 45 shots of vodka in under an hour to hit that level. There are about 27 shots in a normal one liter bottle, so we're talking about the better part of 1.75 bottles of hard liquor. Yikes!

She's committing suicide by liquor. That's her choice, but she has no business taking anyone else with her.
