That was one of the first LPs I bought, though, and Rare Earth were the first band I saw in concert.



Okay — technically, it was Snail, who opened, then Bonnie Bramlett, then Rare Earth. But...

2. At the time, their 25 minute version of Get Ready was pretty daring and

groundbreaking. A few bands before them had put out really long songs, but they were one of the first. The long version is great.

3. When did Iron Butterfly cut 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,' '67?

It was 17:05, or right around there. It was the first song I remember that made everybody go "Wow!" about the length.

"Get Ready" was... I wanna say 22:03. (Edit: I dug up the album; it's 21:30.) I didn't time it live, of course, but I remember one of the guys saying, "Okay, we're gonna get into 20 or 30 minutes of 'Get Ready'" and the whole place going nuts.

I think the best part is the intro, which you don't hear on the single. It's kinda dreamy and etherial, and it was great to listen to with the Fantastic Plastic Light Machine goin'.
