6. I had the opportunity to see him win one of his U.S. titles.

It was in 1992 when I saw Christopher Bowman win his second U.S. title. I went with a friend of mine who was living in Orlando, FL at the time. When it came to the top 6 skaters that were to be shown on tv, my friend called his parents from the arena. He asked them to watch on tv; maybe they would see us. Christopher certainly lived up to the moniker, "Bowman the Showman." He even lived up to the moniker during the post competition exhibition. I always felt that Christopher Bowman had more skating talent in his pinkie than some men have in their bodies. Unfortunately, he never really lived up to his potential. Damn, 40 is way too young to die. Drugs and alcohol did not help him at all.

My condolences go out to Christopher's family, daughter and friends. RIP /Christopher.

7. He was diagnosed as Bipolar in '04. It is sad he wasn't treated years ago

I know someone who got into drugs as a way of self medicating who was later diagnosed as bipolar.

Bowman was such an incredible talent that he could land such beautiful jumps in spite of lack of training and drug abuse. It is sad that he wasn't given a proper diagnoses back then before drugs consumed his life.

9. A lot of bipolar folks commit suicide as well. It's a hellish disease and I
consider myself lucky to "only" be Bipolar II and not I.
