Question for digital camera experts: I have a problem
Since I'm not a donor (long story), I can't post in the Photography forum, so maybe some kindly person here knows the answer.

The pins on my camera's USB port have become defective somehow, making it impossible for me to use a USB cord to download pictures, but usually that's not a problem, since I just remove the memory card and stick it into a thumbnail doohickey.

Recently, an out-of-town friend came to visit, and of course, I took a series of pictures, including her reunion with a third person, someone she hadn't seen for about thirty years.

The pictures of the reunion were not on the memory card. After some investigation, I discovered that I had somehow taken them using the camera's internal memory.

If my USB connection still worked, that would be no problem. With my USB connection not working, I'm stumped.

Is there anything I can do to get the pictures of the camera's internal memory without using a USB connection?

Thanks!

1. What brand camera is it?
I figured that out on my Kodak easy-shot recently. (got it used, didn't have a cable. :) )

2. There's usually a feature that lets you...
...copy from internal memory to flash memory. It's no doubt buried away ten menus-deep, but it should be there.

5. Well, if your camera can't copy from internal to flash memory...
...and you can't hook up a USB cable, the only alternative is to send it away for servicing to get the USB port repaired.

I assume you've tried another USB cable, just in case that's the problem?

6. It's possible that my camera can copy from internal memory, but I can't
find the manual.

Yes, I've tried two different USB cords. :-(

7. Have a look on the Olympus website.
Often, manufacturers post PDFs of manuals on their websites. You can download it and see if your camera has the feature.

8. Here are some ideas

When you're in "Playback" mode, is there an option to add/move images to an "Album" -- and can you create such an Album on the memory card, and then move the images there?

Last resort -- A/V cable out to another device

edit to add: also while in the "Play" menu, is there a "Backup" option, and if you choose it, does it ask for a location (usb vs. flash drive)?

edit *again* to add link to manual:

http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/manual/zoom/bman_sp320e.pdf

or

http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/manual/zoom/man_sp320e.pdf

Yeah, it's in there:

Top menu ==> Mode Menu ==> Card ==> Backup

that transfers the internal memory stuff to the card.

12. Yay! I'm glad you got the photos.
Nothing's more frustrating than stubborn technology. With me, it's a race between my desire to solve the problem and my desire to smash the offending device to pieces with a hammer.
