I hate where I live. Wish I could leave, but keep being told
"it's too soon". I guess I have to be COMPLETELY miserable before leaving would be an appropriate career move.

Thanks. Have a nice day.

I have no advice, but a hug always makes me feel better when I am blue...

2. Thanks. That helps.
People here aren't huggers. They find it best not to emote, for reasons I'm not clear about. So, hugs are few and far between. So, again, thanks.

3. Where do you live and why is it "too soon" for you to move?

5. I live in North Central Illinois
and I've only been here three years. In clergy circles, that implies that I didn't do my job well, or that I gave up too soon. Other churches--or at least judicatory staff--would be nervous about calling (hiring) me. So I'm told.

7. Okay, thanks. Can't you just quit and start all over again in a place you desire?

9. I have to be called by a congregation, and the rules
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 04:33 PM by mycritters2
don't allow me to just send my resume directly to a church. I have to send it through a judicatory office. Some of this is for good reason--to keep any old huckster from talking a church into hiring him. But there are expectations that drive me nuts. I wish i could just go to my council, scream "I QUIT!" and leave. But I'd have to have a place to go right away. See, they own my house.

11. Sounds like a case of rock and a hard place.
Well, just recall the story of Job and his patience.

6. Thanks! That's what I'd like to do.
I had such a great experience in Iowa. Everyone is so kind, and clergy don't treat one another like the competition like they do here. But it's the Iowa Conference Minister who told me it was too soon to move. Dammit!

Maybe I'll find some other job in Iowa. ANY other job in Iowa!!

And I am a native Iowan!

8. Aw...

I'm very sorry to hear that... I feel your pain, being stuck somewhere you're not happy.

The only thing keeping me here is lack of funds. Else I'd be gone ASAP.

12. I'm in northern Ilinois too, and the weather isn't helping the "happy" factor much.
It's grey and rainy. Although it's not damn cold, it's damp and chilly.

I hope you find someone to give you that hug - we really need to organize a DU meet up for No. Illinois and throw off some of these winter doldrums....

 A virtual hug at least....
