Okay, I was a bit off — twice. According to Wikipedia, it was actually invented by Rob Nelson, a pitcher with the Portland Mavericks at the same time Bouton was with them. (I errantly said he was with the Eugene Emeralds; somewhere I have a photo of him from the Eugene Register-Guard pitching for the Mavericks against the Ems, and I got confused.) :blush:

Bouton marketed it to Wrigley.
