Bert Blyleven screwed over by sports writers again...
No doubt he belongs in the Hall of Fame...

However a silver lining...his vote percentage took a dramatic jump this year from 47 to 61...

Maybe next year!

1. I don't think he belongs
he was an above average to good player for a long time, but I think the Hall too easily rewards players for that. I'd rather the Hall of Fame be for players that were exceptional/dominant for a period of time. Blyleven had one 20 win season in his career.

But, that's my opinion.

2. He played on consistently bad teams...consider this...
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 04:04 PM by SaveElmer
26th all time in wins

13th all time in innings pitched

8th all time games started

242 complete games

5th all time in strikeouts

9th all time in shutouts

Rookie of the year 1970

Comeback player of the year 1989

Career ERA 3.31

5-1 in the postseason...and pitched for two world series teams...

Not really his fault he was stuck on crappy team after crappy team...he has hall of fame stats

5. Good case!
Put him in. Plus, he'd be the first member born in the Netherlands (real name: Rik)

And my opinion isn't biased because I am a complete Twins fanatic, either! ;-)

6. The Hall of Fame is way, way too crowded....
...I like him, but Bert "Have her home" Blyleven, shouldn't be in the hall. Sorry.

9. Jim Rice must be pissed - missed it by a few votes
But I'm upset that Davey Concepcion has not made it to the Hall of Fame. If this guy had the career he had with any other team he'd be in there by now. But playing on a legendary team that includes Hall-of-Famers Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez (and should be in there) Rose plus HOFer manager Sparky Anderson - well he gets over looked.

Probably one of the most talented Shortstops of his generation!
