Sometimes it is funny
I work in a library in Frankfurt, my brother in an used books store in Berlin, which is a distance from about 500km (over 300 miles).

Now, my boss asked me to order books and check if I get some of them second hand. So I search for them on the German Internet page for used books. And guess what. Two of the books I am looking for are offered by his bookstore. :wow:

I love family :D

2. Unfortunately not
Snail mail service is the answer :)
But within Germany the post is working fast. The mail gets delivered within one or two days. Can't really complain about that.
Now if I send something to the U.S. .... that is a completely different topic. And don't ask about the prices

4. ok, this isn't really related, but I don't get to tell this story too often
Once I gave a girl a book for her birthday or Christmas or something. It was a nice old used book, and the owner had written his name inside. Just a few days or weeks later, she found a book getting thrown out by her local library written by the guy who'd owned the book I gave her. Sometimes it is funny.

Oh! I have one other good book story:

On a derive in Chicago, I found a copy of "A Thousand Plateaus" in a dumpster next to an architectural model of a beach house. The book was unread, and still had the book mark in it from the shop that sold it. The real nice bit was that I already owned "A Thousand Plateaus", but the copy I had had a misprint in it, so I couldn't read the whole thing.

6. Those are cool stories
sometimes it is really amazing how things are going. Trying to think if I have happen something like that to me but I can't at the moment.

The other thing about ordering books from the bookstore my brother is working is this: He writes the prices in the book. Now when we get books and something is written in there we don't erase it. We just leave it there and write our stuff in the book and put our stamp in it. Now, I normally do the cataloging. So the books have my handwriting in it .... and with the books I ordered from my brother .... it has both our handwriting in it. Not that anybody knows or cares but I kinda find it cool.

7. that's very nice
I had a job at a library once processing new books (making labels, putting in magnetic strips, etc.), but I never thought to put anything from myself in there though. I should have.

8. We are a small library

and the labels are written by hand. Also, we write the signature into the front of the book too. So that is why my handwriting is in the books.

Edit to add: thanks for reminding me of the English library vocabulary. After I did my internship in Savannah, GA I had to write a paper about my experience. I had a tough time writing it in German because I didn't know the German vocabulary  I had to call a friend to help me with it.

10. Hey Simply
:hi:

Every time my mom or I visit my brother we also go to his bookstore (he really is part-owner of it). We very seldom come out of there without books.

Beside, my brother and I are the first in our family to work with books. The whole family loves to read but till the two of us it was never a profession within the family.

:hi: :loveya:

12. It is a wonderful profession
I am glad though that I am a librarian .... working in a bookstore would be too much temptation ... I would spend all my money on books

14. I totally agree with you there!
But with me, it wouldn't matter which place I worked, I think I'd be reading all of the time. I could just say that I was doing research, you know, so I'd be well informed and could communicate with the customers on a higher level.

Gotta get ready and head out to work.
