LCD TV owners - what would cause a blotch to appear on the display?
The whole TV surface is clean, unscratched, new.

One area, off to the side but not the corner, is a blotchy area that shows things a tad darker than the rest of the picture.

Only brightness is affected, and the blotch always appears as dark gray.

It's only visible when something bright is displayed. Which means I don't see it 90% of the time.

Should I call it in for service? I do have an extended warranty...

Thx!

1. Is there anything magnetic nearby?
I know that primarily affects tube TV's but it could mess up an LCD as well.

Check for speakers or anything with a motor in it.

2. that was my first thought as well...
but lcd's work different than crt's...do magnets affect them in a similar fashion?

3. Negative. On both counts.

No speaker is anywhere near said set. And, to my knowledge, LCDs are unaffected by magnets. At least the screens, but I haven't any magnet even remotely close to the internal circuit elements either.

4. Cat puke?
That's the usual explanation for weird blotches on my stuff.

6. is the blotch there on all input sources?
and if so, if you have a dvd that has a scene where the blotch is especially noticeable, i would have it ready to show for when the service guy comes.

7. Yes, and I think I have a name for the defect:

I'd have a DVD on pause (the "I Spy" theme with the all white background) and computer connection should do.

The problem is called "mura".

The problem is so miniscule, I'm tempted to hold off until it becomes big. Given it's an extended warranty and all, it seems silly to bring it in now...

(and given how problems are more likely to occur on larger size LCD panels, I shouldn't complain too much at all. :) Still, the price alone is enough for me to want to whine...)
