Remember my neighbor with the flag on the 25-foot pole that he never takes down
from over the gable-roofed garage that's bigger than some houses, on his half-acre lot behind his McMansion?

Apparently yesterday's storm ripped it in half. It looks like two "streamer" flags, one with 50 stars and seven stripes, the other with six stripes.

:patriot:

1. I've been thinking about investing
Maybe I should buy stock in a company that makes flags.

3. It's only been a day
So I'm cuttin' him some slack.

But if it's still up through next weekend, I'm gonna do a "phototorial" — send a picture of it to the local paper with some well-phrased comments, including my status as a Die-Hard Lib'rul.

In short, embarrass the fuck outa him.

19. Perhaps in your comments you could include some of the rules
of the flag which he has violated.

If you're going to embarrass him, you might as well do it right.

6. Maybe you should tell him the only way to retire the flag
would be to burn it (since it would be un-American to return or bury it). ;)

15. When I submit the phototorial described above
my comments will include information on proper flag disposal, i.e. contacting the VFW, American Legion or Boy Scouts.

Funny — I'm totally not a flag-waver, but I get pissed off when I see it dissed.

9. I grew up in God country...
western, rural Ohio, and while I was home on holiday, it was astounding how many Muricans have torn and tattered flags. I wonder if they think they are in a war zone. I just figured they'd be of the opinion that's why we're in Iraq--you know, to defend rural Ohio.

I work out of Troy. I used to run an Indiana route and I came back to Troy via US 36. Lots of flags out that way. A couple of confederate ones, too!

17. I grew up just south of Gettysburg on US36
I've wondered frequently if the people with the Rebel flags around there thought the Battle of Gettysburg happened in Ohio.

20. That poor flag should be put to rest
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't 'dead' flags supposed to be burned, to avoid further desecration?

21. Yes, but you can't use fire or flame.
Because that gets their knickers in a bunch.

Did you know, for example, that desecratory flag burnings were up 33% in 2006 from the previous year?

That's right, we had 4 in 2006, up from 3 in 2005! WE NEED A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT!!!
